Pomona College’s Benton Museum of Art will open four new exhibits on Thursday, February 13:

Jonathan Lethem’s Parallel Play: Contemporary Art and Art Writing,” described as “a chronicle of an author who roams among visual artists,” showcases artistic and written works from or related to the personal collection of author Jonathan Lethem, a professor of creative writing and English at Pomona College, who has been a part of the contemporary art world for decades. The show is up through June 29.

One Last Thing Again,” curated by Jonn Herschend, Will Rogan and Benton director Victoria Sancho Lobis, features the complete run of THE THING Quarterly, an object-based periodical produced by Herschend and Rogan from 2007-2017, including an issue featuring Lethem. It’s viewable through June 29.

A free 4 p.m. artist panel and 5 p.m. opening reception for “Jonathan Lethem’s Parallel Play: Contemporary Art and Art Writing” and “One Last Thing Again” is set for Saturday, February 15. RSVP at pomona.edu/museum.

Black Ecologies in Contemporary American Art” features Dawoud Bey, Tony Gleaton, Wardell Milan, Alison Saar, and Kara Walker through Sunday, June 29. The exhibit is organized by Pomona College’s English Department Chair Cherene Sherrard-Johnson, Africana studies professor J Finley, and Sancho Lobis. “This interdisciplinary exhibition explores relationships among Black people, Land, and the environment,” according to the show description.

Doubles: Prints and Drawings from the Collections of the Benton Museum of Art and Ian White,” on view through June 29, spotlights the choices of the 2024 AllPaper Seminar fellows from the Benton and the Ian White archives. It includes Emma Balda, Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida, Cecelia Chavez, Corey Hope LoDucca, Samantha Alexis Manuel, Avani Sastry, Evelyn Bea, Eva Caston, Danielle Gorodenzik, Jennifer Ly, Madison Quiroz and Victoria Vargas.

The Benton, 120 W. Bonita Ave., Claremont, is open to the public, and admission is free. It is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
