Friday, July 4
- Happy Independence Day from the Courier!
- La Verne’s festivities start at the Methodist church, 3205 D St., with a 6:30 a.m. pancake breakfast ahead of the 10 a.m. parade at 10th and D streets. Other events include a free noon to 4 p.m. family swim at the La Verne Aquatics Center, 3175 Bolling Ave., a 4 to 8 p.m. pacific island grill dinner, $12-$20, at Methodist church, and a 7 p.m. concert at Bonita High School, 3102 D St., with fireworks at about 9 p.m. Tickets are $20. Kids 4 and under are free.
- Claremont’s Fourth of July activities start with a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast at Memorial Park, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd., followed by the 7:30 a.m. children’s 1K and 8 a.m. community 5K. The 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. festival at Memorial Park will be followed by the 1 p.m. parade. Closing out the evening is the 9 p.m. fireworks show at Pomona College’s Strehle Track, 522 N. Mills Ave. Tickets, $10, and event info are available at claremontca.gov/4th-of-july.
- Ontario’s free and open to the public activities begin with a 9 a.m. parade at Euclid Avenue and Fourth Street, followed by the 9:30 to 1:30 p.m. all-states picnic at 224 N. Euclid Ave., capped by a fireworks show about 9 p.m. at Westwind Park, 2455 E. Riverside Dr.
- Fairplex’s annual Fourth of July celebration, “Kaboom!” begins at 4 p.m. at 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona. Fireworks start about 9:15. Tickets, $14-$42, and info are at fairplex.com/kaboom. Parking is $25.
- Upland’s Light Up the Night Fireworks Spectacular, including an airplane display and live entertainment, begins at 5 p.m. at Cable Airport, 1749 W. 13th St. Pop Vision performs at 5:15. Fireworks begin about 9. For information, visit uplandca.gov/4th-of-july-festivities.
- Rancho Cucamonga’s fireworks show at Epicenter Sports Complex, 8408 Rochester Ave., begins about 9 p.m. Tickets are $15, $125 for a table of four, at cityofrc.us/events. Gates open at 6.
Saturday, July 5
- Pilgrim Place first Saturday sales feature fine art, housewares, clothing, books, and plants from 9 to 11 a.m. at 625 Mayflower Rd., Claremont. Call (909) 399-5500, extension 0, or visit pilgrimplace.org/firstsatsales for more info.
- California Botanic Garden and Three Valleys Municipal Water District host a two-day workshop on California wild buckwheat species, with the first course beginning at 9 a.m. today at 1500 N. College Ave., Claremont, followed by a 9 a.m. July 6 trip to Big Bear Lake. Participants must arrange their transportation. Tickets, $110 for members, $125 for non-members, are at calbg.org.
- A farmers’ market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Second Avenue in downtown Upland.

- Admission is waived at Claremont Lewis Museum of Art, 200 W. First St., on the first Sunday of each month from noon to 4 p.m. Children’s activities are led by students of the museum’s Project ARTstART program.

Monday, July 7
