A day after President Donald Trump claimed the United States would “own” Gaza and develop it into “Riviera of the Middle East,” more than 30 people demonstrated against the plan on the corners of Foothill and Indian Hill boulevards on February 5.
Signs read, “Gaza for Palestinians,” “The U.S. Does Not Own Gaza,” and “No U.S. Troops in Gaza.” The action was organized by Friends of Sabeel North America Claremont, a chapter of the nonprofit Christian ecumenical organization.
“The response from drivers was like nothing we’d heard in the 14 months we’ve been doing [ceasefire] vigils: nonstop honking, almost like we were holding the feelings of so many who drove by,” wrote Lora Jo Foo, FOSNA Claremont ceasefire task force convener, in an email.
