Hillcrest hosts discussion on 19th century photographer

Sierra Madre resident Jeff Lapides, a jewelry photographer and book designer, speaks at 7 p.m. Monday, March 10 on late surveyor, mining engineer and photographer Rudolph d’Heureuse during a free and open to the public presentation, “Passage to El Dorado,” at Hillcrest’s meeting room, 2705 Mountain View Dr., La Verne.

In 1863, d’Heureuse photographed the Mojave Road in the desert west, from the Pacific Ocean, the banks of the Colorado River, to the mines of Eldorado Canyon in Nevada, as detailed in the 2018 book, “The Mojave Road in 1863 – The Pioneering Photographs of Rudolph D’Heureuse.”
