Tuesday, July 2
A Claremont Police Department officer questioned Pomona resident Shawn Dejesus, 49, outside Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 9:15 a.m., and a records check revealed a misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernardino County. A search allegedly turned up a methamphetamine pipe, and a charge of possession of unlawful paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, was added. Dejesus was booked at CPD and released with a citations to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Wednesday, July 3
An officer conducting an 11:11 p.m. vehicle check near Towne Avenue and the 210 Freeway was allegedly greeted by an unruly motorist. Police say Ashlynn Ballejos, 26, of Victorville, was uncooperative and displayed symptoms of intoxication. They attempted to administer field sobriety tests, but Ballejos allegedly did not want to complete them, leading to her arrest for misdemeanor resisting or obstructing a peace officer. She was taken to CPD for booking and for additional sobriety tests, which led police to add a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. After submitting a chemical sample she was held for detoxification then released with a citation and a court date.
Friday, July 5
Police responded to Claremont High School, 1601 N. Indian Hill Blvd., at 2:36 a.m. regarding a vandalism call. After finding smashed windows on the campus, police watched surveillance footage with a school official who helped identify the suspects. Police then traveled to the Claremont home of 18-year-old Samuel Allen, and to the Upland residence of Benjamin Malinoski, 18, to question them. One of the suspects consented to a search of his property. The other did not, and police obtained a search warrant. During both searches police say they were able to match clothing worn by the suspects in the surveillance footage, leading to their arrests for felony vandalism. They were taken to CPD for booking and later released with citations to appear at Pomona Superior Court. The cost to repair the damage at CHS was later estimated at about $7,000.
Claremont officers allegedly saw a driver commit a moving violation near Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 Freeway at 11:28 p.m., and pulled him over. Police say they saw open containers of alcohol in the car and a nitrous oxide tank during questioning, and the driver, Kevin Ordazrodriguez, 19, of Ontario, displayed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. They carried out field sobriety tests which led to his arrest for misdemeanor DUI. A passenger, 18-year-old Pomona resident Refugio Vasquez, was determined to be in possession of the nitrous tank, which led to his arrest for the misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of nitrous oxide. Both were booked at CPD and, after Ordazrodriguez submitted a chemical sample and detoxed, they were released with citations to appear in court.
Sunday, July 7
CPD officers made a 4:30 p.m. trip to the area of Mission Boulevard and Pipeline Avenue in Montclair to pick up a 26-year-old Compton man Montclair police had detained who had a felony Claremont warrant for child abuse. The man was transported to CPD for booking, where he was held for court. He was moved to the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles July 9 and is due back at Pomona Superior Court on July 26.
Monday, July 8
At 10:34 a.m., police responded to an encampment along the 1500 block of Monte Vista Avenue. There they spoke with a 52-year-old unhoused man, and a records check revealed a misdemeanor warrant from San Bernardino County. He was arrested, booked at CPD, and released with a citation.
An employee at Bunny Gunner, 230 W. Bonita Ave., called police at 11:54 a.m. regarding a man allegedly staring through the store’s window and doing pushups outside, which made employees uncomfortable. Police arrived and questioned 38-year-old Montclair resident Albert Hernandez. A records check revealed an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from San Bernardino County, and he was arrested for the warrant, booked at Claremont jail, issued a citation to appear in court and released.
At 11:22 p.m., police were alerted that their “bait bike,” a poorly secured bicycle fitted with a tracking device, had been stolen by a would-be thief from its location near Bucknell Avenue and Watson Drive. Police found the bike a short distance away in the possession of Hacienda Heights resident Frank Hernandez, 30, and arrested him for felony grand theft and possession of stolen property. A search allegedly turned up methamphetamine, and police added a charge of misdemeanor possession of narcotics. He was booked at CPD and later released with three citations to appear in court.
