Claremont High School

Boys water polo

The Wolfpack participated in the Corona Tournament at Temescal Canyon High School last Thursday, September 1. The team won its first game against Trabuco Hills 17-7, but lost the second game against Burbank, 17-11.

On September 2, the team squeaked out a 13-12 away win over San Juan Hills. On Tuesday, September 6, the team fell 13-11 at Troy.

Claremont returns to action 3:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22 against a TBA opponent at home in the Wolfpack Varsity Tournament, followed by a 3:30 p.m. game Friday, September 23 and a 9 a.m. contest Saturday, September 24.

Girls volleyball

On Tuesday, September 6, the Wolfpack lost 3-1 at home against St. Lucy’s in their final preseason game. Claremont started Palomares League play against Glendora after press time on Thursday.

Over the weekend the team will participate in the Ayala Tournament at Ayala High School. The team’s first game is at 3:30 p.m. Friday, followed by an 8 a.m. match on Saturday.

The Wolfpack continues league play next week as they host Colony on Tuesday and Bonita on Thursday. The first serves are set for 4:30 p.m.

Football

The Wolfpack got the preseason start it was looking for with a big 35-0 nonleague victory over Tustin on Friday, September 2. Senior running back Caden Campuzano was one of the Pack’s standout players last week as he racked up 100 rushing and receiving yards and scored three touchdowns.

The team will travel to Alta Loma Friday, September 9 for a non-league match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Girls golf

Monday’s nonleague match at Chino Hills was rescheduled to after press time Thursday, September 8.

On Monday, September 12 the team will play in the Walnut Tournament at the California Country Club in Whittier. Tee-off is set for 8 a.m. The team will then host Los Osos at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne starting at 2:30 p.m. in a nonleague match.

Girls tennis

The team’s nonleague home match against Temescal Canyon was rescheduled to 3:15 p.m.  Monday, September 12. Their Thursday, September 8, match against Los Osos was cancelled.

On Wednesday, September 14, the team will host Alta Loma at 3:15 p.m. to open their Palomares League campaign. On Thursday, the team will again be at home to face Walnut at 3:15 p.m. in nonleague action.

Boys and girls cross-country

Key results from Saturday’s Cool Breeze Invitational: the boys varsity team placed 22nd out of 26 schools, with an overall score of 570 in the three-mile race. The girls team did not compete in the three-mile event.

The girls freshman team finished 14th out of 16 in the one-and-a-half-mile girls race; the freshman boys placed fourth out of 31 in their event. The junior varsity boys placed sixth out of 24 schools in the one-and-a-half-mile race; the JV girls placed fifth out of 15 schools in their one-and-a-half-mile contest.

At 8 a.m. Saturday, September 10 the team will host a league meet against Ayala.

The Webb Schools

Boys football

The Webb Schools kicked off its boys football season Saturday, September 3 with a 30-16 home win against San Jacinto Valley Academy. Because of the ongoing heat wave, the 1 p.m. game was rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. Next Saturday, September 10, the team will travel to Pebble Beach to play Stevenson. Kick-off is set for noon.

Girls volleyball

The Gauls fell 3-2 at Tarbut V’Torah last Thursday, and stumbled again on Tuesday, September 6 with a 3-0 loss at Capistrano Christian Valley. Their Thursday game against Big Bear was canceled.

The team will host Western Christian next Tuesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. and then Avalon at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17.

Boys water polo

The team hosted Mark Keppel on September 1 and won 11-4. The team then traveled to Sierra Vista where they came out on top again, 13-10. The momentum continued with a 13-10 win over Chaffey on Tuesday, September 6.

Girls tennis

The Gauls began their season with a 11-7 victory at Northview.
