Boys water polo

On Thursday, November 3, Claremont sunk Chaparral, 18-8, at home in the second round of the Division III CIF-Southern Section Boys’ water polo tournament. The team started the tournament with a first-round bye.

But, the boys’ season came to an abrupt close in the quarterfinal round against Irvine on Saturday, November 5 when they lost 17-11 to the Vaqueros. CIF-SS brackets are updated at cifss.org.

Football

On Saturday, November 5, Claremont defeated Hart on the road, 29-26, in the first round of the Division VII CIF-Southern Section football tournament.

Senior running back Nathan Giles had another postseason night to remember, with three touchdowns while rushing for 176 yards on just six carries. Senior linebacker Zack Leeper intercepted a Hart pass and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown. The win improves CHS’s overall record to 8-2 ahead of this Friday’s November 11 second round clash at home against Mayfair. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CIF brackets are updated at cifss.org.

Boys and girls cross-country

Results from the Friday, November 4 Palomares League Finals meet at Ayala Park: the varsity boys team placed third and will advance to the Division II CIF-Southern Section Prelims on Saturday, November 12 at Mt. San Antonio College. Junior Andrew Lee finished highest for the Wolfpack, placing seventh with a time of 15:32.6.

The girls team cruised to a first-place finish to bring home the Palomares League title. Junior Denise Jie Yi Chen set a new course record of 17:00.2 and was named league MVP for the third year in a row. Wolfpack runners took the top three spots in the girls race with Denise leading the way, followed by junior Alexa Gossett with a time of 17:50.3, and finally freshman Isla Bulmer with at 17:51.8. The girls team advanced to the Division II CIF-SS Prelims and will race this Saturday, November 12.

Girls golf

On Thursday, November 3, junior Kristina Xu competed in the CIF Individual Finals at Western Hills Country Club where she finished eighth out of the top 72 high school golfers from across the CIF-Southern Section. Xu shot a two over par 74, which was enough to qualify her for the SoCal Individual Girl’s Golf Finals. The Thursday, November 10 match at the Brookside Country Club was played after press time.

Girls tennis

Last Wednesday, November 2, the team hosted Santa Barbara in the first round of the Division I CIF-Southern Section Girls team tennis tournament and lost, 10-8.

Senior singles player Sydney La and doubles teams of junior Camila Fernandez and sophomore Delia Vargas, and senior Angelina Alkhouri and junior Kaili Hernandez will compete in the Division I CIF-Southern Section Individual tournament on Monday, November 21.

The Webb Schools

Boys water polo

On Wednesday, November 2, Webb hosted Muir in the first round of the Division VI CIF-Southern Section Boys’ water polo tournament, and fell 23-5, ending its 2022 season. CIF-SS brackets are updated at cifss.org.

Girls tennis

On Thursday, November 3, the Gauls beat La Quinta, 13-5, at home in the first round of the Division IV CIF-Southern Section team championships. Webb then welcomed Chaffey in the second round on Friday, November 4 and scored another win, 13-5. The team traveled to Mark Keppel for quarterfinal action on Wednesday, November 9, but fell, 16-2. Freshman singles player Anna Park and sophomore doubles duo Jasmine Beseth and Saira Bhagat will compete in the Division V CIF-Southern Section individual tournament on Monday, November 21.

Boys and girls cross-country

The boys team qualified for the Division V CIF-Southern Section Cross-Country Prelims and will race at 9:26 a.m. Friday, November 11 at Mt. San Antonio College. Only freshman Nicole Samson advanced on the girls side. She will race as an individual runner at the prelims beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
