Pack sweeps league prelims, net MVP awards

Claremont High School senior Leyton Bohren, won the singles title at the Palomares League CIF prelim tournament on Friday defeating teammate, junior Jason Weisman, 7-6, 6-3, in the final, according to a news release from CHS athletics.

In the semi-final round, Bohren beat Ayala freshman Dylan Ojeda, 7-5, 6-3, and Weisman beat Ayala junior Pritwick Jeeva, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0, setting up the final match between the teammates.

By reaching the final, both Bohren and Weisman qualify for the CIF Individual Singles Tournament beginning on May 24. This is Weisman’s first time qualifying for the tournament in singles however Bohren reached the quarterfinals last year.

On the doubles side, junior Andrew Weisman and sophomore Ben Stapp dropped only 5 games in route to the title. They defeated the Ayala team of John Park and Lance Tayag in the final, 6-0, 6-1. They will compete in the CIF Doubles Tournament at a site to be announced.

On Thursday league officials awarded Andrew Weisman and Stapp the Palomares League doubles MVP title and Bohren was named the singles MVP.

Weisman and Stapp only lost one set posting a 15-1 record while Bohren was undefeated in league play with a 26-0 record.
