Benton Museum hosts virtual film series
Pomona College’s Benton Museum is hosting a free virtual film series and conversation, “7 x 7 // 7 Artists, 7 Years,” beginning at 4:30 p.m. today. Please register in advance at https://arabfilmseries.eventive.org/schedule for a link to the event.
“March 19 marks the seventh year of the war in Yemen, a date commemorated this year with a special screening of short films by seven Yemeni filmmakers,” read a Benton press release. “This screening begins with the premiere of the videos Conflict Is More Profitable Than Peace and ???? // Mahjar by the Yemeni-Bosnian multi-media artist and filmmaker Alia Ali. Ms. Ali, currently featured in the Benton Museum of Art’s Project Series, will then discuss her work—and discourses of Yemeni futurism—with Dave Serio, the film curator at the Arab American National Museum.”
The films included in the screening include the documentaries “Carrom,” directed by Nashwan Sadek, “Ozazah,” by Ala’a Hafed, “Made of Gold,” from Saber Wasel, and “The Last Resort,” by Noordeen Morgan. Also being screened will be the fictional short film, “Scene 2,” from director Abdulrahman Alward, and the sci-fi short, “The Helmet,” from Osama Khaled.
The film series will be viewable for 48 hours.
This event is presented by the Arab American National Museum (AANM) and the Benton Museum of Art together with the Department of Art History at Pomona College, Youth of the World Together Organization (YWT), ArteEast, and Arab Film and Media Institute (AFMI).
