Claremont Police Blotter
Tuesday, September 12: Claremont Police Department officers were called to Larkin Park, 660 N. Mountain Ave., at 2:14 p.m. after being alerted that two people were fighting. Upon arrival they allegedly saw a 40-year-old woman from Upland hitting a man with her fists. After separating the pair, police ran a background check on the woman and learned she had a protective order to stay away from the man. Officers said the victim had visible injuries to his face, so police arrested her for felony domestic violence. She was taken to the Claremont jail, booked, and held for court.
Police are looking for a couple of presumably very pleasant smelling suspects who reportedly stole $4,000 worth of deodorant from the Vons supermarket at 550 E. Baseline Rd. At 1:34 p.m. an employee called police to report the pair had entered the location and apparently left without paying for the merchandise. Police reported that very similar crimes occurred recently in both Upland and San Dimas.
At 11:35 p.m. Saturday, June 3 officers from Claremont Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Upland resident Julia Barcelona, 48, on Foothill Boulevard near Berkeley Avenue. After Barcelona pulled over, her passenger, Maria Barcelona, 44, also from Upland, got out of the car and reportedly became belligerent. Officers suspected that Julia Barcelona might be intoxicated so they conducted field sobriety tests which she allegedly failed. She was arrested for DUI and Maria Barcelona was arrested as well, charged with drunk in public. At the Claremont jail Julia Barcelona allegedly refused to take the chemical test so police secured a search warrant. She then refused that order as well, so an additional misdemeanor charge of defying a court order was added. Both women were held for detoxification and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Sunday, May 21: At 5:16 p.m. the Claremont Police Department received a call from a man in the parking lot of Trader Joe’s at 475 W. Foothill Blvd. who said someone had just removed his mother’s wallet from her purse. The caller described the suspect as a heavy set man wearing a flower print shirt and a mask. Officers located the suspect, later identified as Paolo Cantillana-Vazquez, 53, with no known city of origin, on Baughman Avenue, where a foot pursuit ensued.
