Longtime Claremont resident, 25-year bilingual, elementary school teacher, community volunteer
Longtime Claremont resident Charlene Betts died January 31.
Charlene taught bilingual primary and music education for 25 years. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader in Claremont, and worked in support of underprivileged children through Children’s Home Society and as a 50-year member of the West End Children’s Fund.
She was a member of Claremont Presbyterian Church’s choir and adult couples group. She also enjoyed working with the Claremont Chamber of Commerce as one of its ambassadors.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Douglas; children Karen, Greg and Cynthia; grandchildren Ryan, Robin, Caroline and Kate; and great-granddaughter Emma.
“She leaves us with many happy memories and friendships developed during our 57 years of living in Claremont,” her husband Douglas said.
