Tuesday, September 1

A yearlong investigation yielded positive results for Claremont Police Department when officers arrested 21-year-old Pomona resident Cameron Thomas at 8:30 a.m. at his home in the 2800 block of Homestead Drive and charged him with felony check fraud. Mr. Thomas is alleged to have pilfered six checks from a Claremont couple’s home in the 600 block of Doane Avenue in August 2019. Police say he then spent more than $5,000 at local retail locations with the kited checks. After the lengthy investigation CPD presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and an arrest warrant was issued. Mr. Thomas spent the day and night in Claremont jail before appearing September 2 for arraignment in Pomona Superior Court.

Officers pulled over a grey Hyundai near Towne Avenue and Foothill Boulevard at 11:37 p.m. and discovered it had been reported stolen in Glendora. They arrested the driver, Aaron Land, 49, from Pomona, and charged him with felony grand theft auto and two counts of drug and paraphernalia possession after they allegedly found meth and a meth pipe.

Wednesday, September 2

A 47-year-old homeless man was arrested after allegedly making threatening shooting gestures at police with his hand. Claremont PD responded to a 7:30 p.m. call regarding an unrelated medical emergency at the Greyhound station at 888 S. Indian Hill Blvd. While attending to the call they were approached by the man. Officers say he became verbally aggressive and belligerent, and used his hand to simulate shooting a handgun at them. A records check turned up eight outstanding arrest warrants out of San Bernardino County, and a search allegedly revealed methamphetamine and a meth pipe. The man was booked on the warrants and three misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia before being released with a citation. 

Thursday, September 3

Claremont police were called to the Motel 6 at 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. at 6:15 a.m. regarding a woman heard screaming in one of the rooms. They knocked on the second story door and found no crime had been committed, but that a 19-year-old Pomona man in the room, Jaziah Smith, had an outstanding warrant from Pomona. Police allegedly found some methamphetamine in his left sock. He was arrested on the warrant and the drug possession charge.

Claremont PD arrested two men for public intoxication. The first, Juan Martinez, 38, from San Dimas, was picked up at 6:30 a.m. near Oak Park Cemetery. The second man, James Mace, 50, from Pomona, was arrested at 10:55 a.m. at College Park, 126 S. College Ave., after they received a call about a disturbance and determined Mr. Mace was drunk. Both men spent the day sobering up in the Claremont jail.

Officers on a routine 8:45 p.m. traffic stop near Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 freeway arrested the driver, a 41-year-old homeless man, for driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia, a methamphetamine pipe. His passenger, Ontario resident Evangelina Ramirez, 46, was also taken into custody because she had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant issued by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Claremont police on patrol at the Chevron/McDonald’s at 860 S. Indian Hill Blvd. stopped 30-year-old bicyclist, Moses Hoskins from San Bernardino, about 10:30 p.m. During questioning they found he had three warrants out of San Bernardino County and one from the Pomona court, and allege he had some meth in his right sock. He was arrested for the warrants and drug possession.

Monday, September 7

Officers on patrol at Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. allegedly saw Clarence Brown II, 30, from La Verne, standing near a car and holding a screwdriver at about 8:20 a.m. Curious, they questioned him and a records search turned up a felony warrant out of San Bernardino County for drug possession while armed. He was subsequently arrested and transported to West Valley Detention Center in Fontana to answer the felony charge.

A 25-year-old Colton woman, Liann Roman, got thrown in the Claremont jail after leading police on a short car chase before attempting to escape on foot. Claremont police tried to pull over a Honda Civic for a vehicle code violation near Indian Hill Boulevard and San Jose Avenue at 5:15 p.m. They ran the plates and found the Honda had been reported stolen September 1 out of San Bernardino. Officers say the driver, Ms. Roman, then tried to evade them by pulling into the nearby Motel 6 parking lot and then speeding south down Indian Hill. The quick pursuit ended near the 1800 block of Bonnie Brae Street in Pomona, where Ms. Roman stopped the car and ran off. Claremont officers quickly caught up to her and took her into custody. She was charged with two felony counts of possession of a stolen vehicle and evading a police officer, and a pair of misdemeanors, driving without a license and resisting arrest. She was booked and held in the Claremont jail before appearing in Pomona Superior Court September 9.
