A homeless man accused of felony vandalism Thursday, August 6 after he allegedly used two metal poles to break out the windows of 16 parked cars and two Village businesses was released the following day from Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, according to police.
Police received numerous 911 calls at 5:54 p.m. August 6 regarding Adam Negrete, 35, who witnesses say was responsible for the bizarre crime spree.
“He was yelling incoherently and was still waving one of the metal poles,” read a CPD press release. “Due to his violent nature and failure to comply, a TASER was deployed and he was taken into custody. Negrete displayed possible signs of excited delirium. Officers monitored Negrete until [the Los Angeles County Fire Department] arrived. Negrete was transported to PVHMC for medical treatment and observation.”
Claremont police issued Mr. Negrete a citation at the hospital for felony vandalism and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He was later released from the hospital after being treated.
He is scheduled to appear November 9 for his arraignment in Pomona Superior Court.
Detective Jason Tillman said CPD protocol for releasing suspects charged with felony vandalism is done on a case-by-case basis.
“He was admitted to the hospital for medical reasons and he was released at the hospital,” Det. Tillman said. As of noon Wednesday, there was not yet a warrant our for Mr. Negrete’s arrest.
“We’re working on that right now, so I don’t have an exact answer for that yet,” the detective said. “We’re working with the [LA County] DA’s office on the best avenue to take.”
