DoubleTree gets unwelcome visitor who tussles with police
On Sunday, July 26 staff at the DoubleTree Hotel, at 555 W. Foothill Blvd., called CPD to report a suspicious person wandering the halls about 4 p.m. Police showed up and attempted to question Victorville resident Phillip Rico, 43, who they say resisted, tried to walk away from the officers and became verbally abusive. When the police tried again to get him to sit still long enough to question him, they say Mr. Rico “became combative” and was “extremely agitated.” Though details are mostly unavailable since the case involves an ongoing investigation, police allege Mr. Rico struck an officer and that it took several officers to restrain him. He was booked for misdemeanor battery on a peace officer and held on $20,000 bail. Mr. Rico spent a few days in Claremont jail before appearing in Pomona Superior Court July 28.
