Commercial burglary at Claremont Cones
On June 20 at about 4:18 a.m., Claremont police officers responded to Claremont Cones at 602 E. Base Line Rd. regarding a commercial burglary alarm.
Upon arrival, officers determined that an unknown suspect had gained access into the business through an unlocked door. The suspect then used a tool to attempt to pry open the safe; however, was unable to open it. There were no witnesses.
Anyone with information about this crime or local business owners with video surveillance that may have captured images of the suspect(s) should contact the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

At about 9 p.m. CPD patrol officers saw two men near the corner of Indian Hill Boulevard and Auto Center Drive, one of whom was riding a bicycle that resembled one that had recently been reported stolen. It turned out it was indeed the hot bike, but the two men—Jonathan Wilson, 35, and Avery Chisolm, 34—told police Mr. Chisolm had recently purchased it at a bargain price. The cops found that Mr. Wilson had a warrant was related to a charge of “the manufacture, sale or possession of metal knuckles,” and arrested him. Mr. Chisolm was arrested and charged with theft of found property. Police say the low purchase price was ample evidence to prove he knew it was stolen. Both were booked and released with citations.

One has to credit Derrick Holland for his dogged criminal persistence. Last week, the 59-year-old Pomonan was arrested for commercial burglary after allegedly loading up a shopping cart with booze at Vons on Base Line Road about 10:30 a.m. and pushing it out the door without paying. This week, Mr. Holland broke the first rule of criminality when he returned to the scene of the (alleged) crime, again at the unusual party time of 10:44 a.m. This time he allegedly relieved Vons of $1,400 worth of meat, chicken and shrimp along with a sizable selection of alcohol. This week’s alleged accomplice and driver was Anaheim resident Dung Nguyen, 47, who piloted the getaway vehicle, for a minute anyway. Claremont PD pulled over Mr. Nguyen in the shopping center parking lot, located the hot groceries, and arrested the pair. Mr. Holland was booked for burglary, and Mr. Nguyen for an outstanding warrant and driving on a suspended license. Mr. Nguyen cited out, but since Mr. Holland was a very recent repeat offender, he spent the night in Claremont jail and was due in Pomona Superior Court Thursday.
