Claremont’s confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus climbed to 32 over the weekend, while the county recorded 2,244 new cases and 87 new deaths from COVID-19 countywide, according to a news release from Los Angeles County Public Health on Monday.

There were 40 deaths and 1073 new cases reported Saturday, 29 deaths and 694 cases on Sunday and 18 deaths and 477 cases reported Monday. Seventy-two of the people who died were over the age of 65, 14 were between the ages of 41 and 65 and two were between 18 and 40. Sixty-five people had underlying health conditions. There are still no confirmed deaths in Claremont, however, the county’s mortality data by location lags a few days behind its other data.

Since its first coronavirus update on March 4, health officials have reported 1,839 deaths and identified 38,451 positive cases across all areas of L.A. County. Ninety-two percent of people who died had underlying health conditions. As of Monday, a total of 5,835 people who tested positive for COVID-19 (15% of positive cases) have been hospitalized at some point during their illness.
