Police blotter 4-24-20

Officers responded to the DoubleTree Hotel at 555 W. Foothill Blvd. on Tuesday, April 21, after a citizen reported weird activity in one of the rooms. Officers went to the room and found its occupants had more than 100 profiles of potential victims of identity theft. The five people in the room were arrested for felony identity theft and booked at the Claremont Police Department.

Police later determined that the victims’ profiles had been stolen during a vehicle burglary in the city of Pasadena over the weekend. The victim of the auto burglary was telecommuting and left paperwork containing people’s personal identifying information that he legally possessed for his business in his vehicle.

Officers are in the process of contacting the potential victims.

During the early morning of Wednesday, April 22, numerous unlocked cars were rummaged through with property stolen, according to police. The reported locations included:

500 block W. San Jose Ave.—paperwork was taken from the glove box.

500 block W. San Jose Ave.—A day planner and gate remote were stolen. The day planner was located in the alley and returned to the owner.

1200 block of Hillsdale Dr. (off of Towne Ave., south of the 210)—A black workbag containing uniforms was stolen.

1500 block of Webster Ave. (west of the Claremont Club)—Two flashlights and paperwork were stolen.

With the current suspension of the enforcement of the overnight parking ordinance until May 16 due to COVID-19, police say there are more vehicles being left on the street overnight, resulting in higher car break-ins.

“Please remember to lock your vehicle and remove valuables or items that may look like they contain valuables,”?police said.

The Claremont Police Department has been busy working the areas of Mt. Baldy Road for street racing and other crimes. Police said people are frequenting turnouts off Mount Baldy Road, thumbing their noses at the LA County Health Order.

On Wednesday, April 22 at around 6:40 p.m. an officer located a stolen 2001 Chevy Blazer parked in a turnout on Mount Baldy Road near the dam. Four juvenile occupants were detained. Two of the juveniles were arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle and were issued citations. All four were released to their parents.

Then at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, the driver of a truck traveling southbound on Padua Avenue from Mount Baldy Road lost control, left the roadway, striking rocks and taking out two trees. The vehicle overturned and came to a rest on its roof.

The driver and passenger both sustained injuries. The driver, a 27-year-old from Colton, was determined to be driving drunk and was arrested.
