Police blotter 4-10-20

Police arrested two men for an alleged assault Saturday, April 5, according to a news release from the Claremont Police Department.

At approximately 12:17 a.m. officers responded to a report that an assault with a deadly weapon had just occurred in the area of Indian Hill Boulevard and Mt. Carmel Drive. Officers located an unidentified victim who was bleeding profusely from the neck from apparent stab wounds.

While being treated by Los Angeles County Fire personnel, the victim expressed having just met the suspects and stated that they were hanging out in a vehicle when a fight erupted and the victim was assaulted. The victim said that the suspects were still in the immediate area.

During a search of the area, the two suspects were located and detained without incident. Evidence was located on their persons and inside of the vehicle, which corroborated the victim’s statement.

The suspects Francisco Ibarra, 20, of Pomona and Ezekiel Hensley, 20, of Oceanside, were arrested and booked into the Claremont jail and held in lieu of $30,000 bail. Arraignment in Pomona Superior Court was scheduled for April 7.

Claremont police officers responded to Unleashed, 905 W. Foothill Blvd., in response to a burglary alarm activation on April 6 at about 2:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the front glass door shattered. Police determined that a burglary had occurred and that the suspect had already fled. Police reviewed video surveillance, which showed a lone suspect had smashed the front glass door and then left about a minute later carrying two computers.

The suspect appears to be a male, possibly Hispanic, 30 to 40 years old, average height, heavy build, wearing a black baseball cap with an unknown logo on the front, a black long sleeve shirt or jacket, and black Adidas shoes with white stripes. No vehicle is seen.

On Tuesday, April 7 at approximately 2:35 p.m., officers responded to a call from a resident who noticed a black Honda Civic following a FedEx truck as it made deliveries to a residence in the 300 block of Rockford Drive. The witness saw the suspect steal the package from the porch.  The Honda was seen leaving east on Rockford  toward Mills Avenue.

Officers received a second call from a resident in the 4400 block of Amundsen Branch about people in an older black Honda Civic who just stole mail. 

The witness followed the Honda until officers arrived in the area and pulled over the driver on Monte Vista Avenue and Base Line Road. Two people in the car were detained.

Further investigation revealed that  the  driver and passenger had been involved  in package and mail theft. Officers identified at least 15 victims of theft, including four from Claremont and additional   victims from Redlands, Rialto, Fontana, Riverside nd Moreno Valley.

The driver of the Honda—Daniel Vavau, 25, from Beaumont—was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance, in possession of a controlled substance and in possession of burglary tools.   

The passenger—Lyric Mena, 24, from Beaumont—was in possession of a meth pipe. They were arrested and booked into  the Claremont jail. 

Both suspects were later released on citations
