Tuesday, January 21
A 32-year-old man kicked out a patrol car’s window as he was being arrested for public intoxication. Police arrived to city hall around 8:15 p.m. after someone called about people hanging around who may be under the influence, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. Police arrested 32-year-old Michael Turner, and he kicked out the squad car’s window as he was sitting in the back seat. He was arrested for public intoxication, vandalism and resisting arrest.
Wednesday, January 22
A routine foot patrol at Motel 6 yielded an arrest for possession of drugs for sale. During that patrol around 9 p.m., officers met with 52-year-old Derrick Sharpe, who was on probation for narcotics and had two warrants out for his arrest. In his room, police found a “large” baggy of meth, some cash, and a meth pipe, Lt. Walters said. Mr. Sharpe was arrested and taken to CPD jail.
Thursday, January 23
More drugs were found on two women who were stopped near Miramar and Mills. During the routine traffic stop around 1:40 a.m., officers found meth, a meth pipe and some other unknown drugs. The two women in the car, 44-year-old Victoria Wetzlich of Hesperia and 34-year-old Danielle Benjamin of Pomona, were on probation at the time. Both were arrested and taken to CPD jail.
Friday, January 24
Police arrested an Ontario man on suspicion of burglary after he was seen leaving a burglarized storage container at the Colleges with the stolen property. The officer saw a car driven by 37-year-old Daniel Nutting leaving a parking lot on the 600 block of east Sixth Street without license plates. Upon contact, Mr. Nutting was on probation for burglary, had meth in his possession and had property from a storage container that was recently broken into, Lt. Walters said. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail. The value of the stolen goods was about $120.

Police are looking for someone who stole $5600 from the Foothill AIDS Project at the Claremont United Church of Christ via fraudulent checks. Between December of 2019 and January 24, the unknown suspect created three fake checks from the victim’s account and cashed them at unknown locations.

An unknown thief smashed the rear window of a Honda Accord in the Sumner Danbury School parking lot. The incident happened between 7:30 a.m. and 3:40 p.m., and nothing was taken from the car.
Saturday, January 25
A Claremont man was arrested after he got into a physical altercation with a woman at a home on the 600 block of south Mountain Avenue. Officers went to the home on a family disturbance call just before 9 a.m., and arrested the 34-year-old man for domestic battery after they determined he got physical with the 32-year-old victim. The victim did not need any medical attention, Lt. Walters said.

A local transient was arrested after he was caught urinating on a tree in front of a home on the 300 block of north Mountain Avenue. The homeowner called police, and when they arrived, they found 57-year-old John Parra had an arrest warrant out of San Bernardino County. He was arrested for indecent exposure and cited out.
Sunday, January 26
Around $300 worth of clothing was stolen from a Cadillac CTS parked in the alleyway of an apartment complex on the 800 block of west Bonita Avenue. The thief shattered the rear passenger window of the car sometime between midnight and 10 a.m. and took the goods. There is no suspect information.

A Pomona man was arrested days after he allegedly committed a strong-arm robbery at Sprouts. At approximately 4:30 p.m., a man was seen leaving the store with miscellaneous groceries without paying for them. The manager tried to chase him down, but the suspect, later identified as 59-year-old Wayne Ross, backed into a motorized shopping cart, which in turn struck the manager. Mr. Ross allegedly sped away, but was found and arrested on suspicion of robbery in Pomona on Tuesday, Lt. Walters said.
Tuesday, January 28
Police are looking for a man who hit another man with a metal pipe during an altercation at Rancho San Jose Park. The victim was sleeping on a park bench around 1:30 p.m. when he awoke and accused the suspect of trying to steal his cell phone. A fight ensued, and the suspect allegedly struck the victim with the metal pipe while saying, “I’ll kick your ass.” The suspect fled before police arrived, and the victim was treated at the scene for a bump on the head. Police are looking for the suspect, and have not released any details on him.
