Police blotter 12-20-19

Wednesday, December 11

A Claremont High School student was arrested after he was discovered to be in possession of marijuana and hydrocodeine pills, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. The 17-year-old boy was arrested around 11 a.m. on suspicion of drug possession and taken to CPD jail, where he was released to a parent.

Police are investigating a mail theft on the 800 block of Northampton. The victim called police around 7:30 p.m. stating that someone stole her mail. One of the pieces of mail contained a credit card, and Lt. Walters said that card was activated and used in various locations around Pomona. Police have four suspects, but details are scarce—the only information available was that they were two Hispanic women, one Caucasian man and one African-American man.

A Chino woman was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence after allegedly getting into a fight with her boyfriend. Police arrived at 8 p.m. near Arrow Highway and Mountain Avenue, and noticed signs of a physical altercation, with the 32-year-old woman deemed the aggressor. The 35-year-old boyfriend was not injured. The woman was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Thursday, December 12

Deshon Casey, 44, called the CPD around 2:20 p.m. claiming unknown people were following him, Lt. Walters said. When police arrived to Mr. Casey’s location at Oak Park and Indian Hill, he took off running through a nearby apartment complex before police caught him. He admitted to using methamphetamine earlier, and he was placed under arrested for being under the influence.

Around $2,000 in cash was taken from a home on the 1500 block of Benedict Avenue. Between 3 and 9 p.m., the unknown burglar entered the home by smashing the rear glass door, Lt. Walters said. In addition to taking the cash, the thief also took some surveillance equipment. Police are investigating.

Friday, December 13

Three unlocked cars in the same driveway were ransacked on the 100 block of West Eighth Street. Between 10 p.m. on December 12 and 8 p.m. on December 13, a thief went into the cars, taking several items from each one, including registration, car manuals, sunglasses and a wallet containing credit cards and cash. All told, the stolen goods were worth about $400.

Sunday, December 15

Two people were arrested in front of the Press after one of them allegedly tried to fight a police officer. Police were called to the Village bar around 1:20 a.m. after someone noticed 32-year-old Jared Nokturne was walking to his car while drunk. As police were speaking with Mr. Nokturne, another man, 28-year-old Damien DeCastro, began arguing with police. A fight allegedly ensued between Mr. DeCastro and an officer, which led to the officer sustaining an undescribed injury, Lt. Walters said. Mr. Nokturne was arrested for public intoxication, while Mr. DeCastro was taken into custody for public intoxication and felony assault on an officer.

About 10 minutes later, a Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested for DUI and hit and run after he tried to run away from a one-car accident. Luis Acosta-Madero, 23, allegedly got into the accident at San Jose and Mills Avenues around 1:30 a.m. and tried to get away, but was caught by Montclair police. Montclair officers held Mr. Acosta-Madero until Claremont police arrived. Police determined he was drunk, and he was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Around 12:30 p.m., officers ran a plate of a black Honda CRV and discovered it had been stolen, Lt. Walters said. Officers followed the driver, 28-year-old Yair Anaya of Pomona, into the Terramonte Apartments in Pomona, where he was arrested for stealing the car.

Police arrested a Pomona man after he was found with drugs, a loaded gun and burglary tools in PepperTree Square. Around 10:15 p.m. an officer noticed a suspicious car driving through the parking lot of a business on the 400 block of west Arrow Highway, before parking in the shopping center, where another police officer was conducting surveillance, Lt. Karlan Bennett of the Claremont Police Department said. The car was parked there for an hour before officers contacted the driver, 54-year-old Michael Swett, and found meth, a meth pipe, a .45 caliber handgun with a loaded extended capacity magazine and burglary tools. PepperTree Square has been the target of a number of commercial burglaries in the past. Mr. Swett was arrested and taken to CPD jail, where he was later released with a citation for the misdemeanor charges, Lt. Bennett said.
