Reverend, champion for peace

Reverend Ken Mitchell, age 89, a longtime resident of Claremont’s Pilgrim Place, died November 14.

He served churches in Michigan, Montana, Washington state and California. He took a special interest in counseling, and worked for justice and peace.

Rev. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and son, Tom.

He is survived by daughters Laura McDermott (John) and Leah Springer (Jeff); son, Kenneth Mitchell; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service took place this week at Claremont United Church of Christ. Donations in Rev. Mitchell’s name may be made by check to Justice for Immigrants Seeking Asylum, c/o Claremont UCC, 233 Harrison Ave., Claremont, CA 91711.
