Police blotter 11-8-19

Tuesday, October 29

A Montclair man was arrested after police caught him driving a stolen Honda Civic. The car, driven by 31-year-old Ulises Terrones, was stopped on Indian Hill Boulevard just south of American Avenue, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. Mr. Terrones was arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto and possession of a stolen car. Two women were in the car with Mr. Terrones at the time of the arrest, and were not taken into custody.

A thief entered a resident’s unlocked car, taking a purse and a wallet. The theft occurred sometime between 8:50 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on the 4000 block of north Garey Avenue. Credit and debit cards were used at up to 14 locations throughout the region, including restaurants and stores, Lt. Walters said. The only description of the thief given is that he is a Caucasian man.

Claremont police initially thought they had stopped a stolen car in Claraboya, but the driver apparently had found the car himself. The silver Honda was pulled over at Mountain and Via Santa Catarina around 6:30 p.m. after police determined it had been stolen out of Pomona, Lt. Walters said. But the driver of the car told police he had found his stolen car in Pomona by himself. He said he called Pomona Police once he found the car, but it was still in the stolen car database. An ID check backed up his claim, and the car was officially removed from the database.

Wednesday, October 30

Two cars were broken into in the same carport on the 600 block of Indian Hill Boulevard. The thefts happened between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. October 31. In one unlocked car, the thief took a laptop and a purse with a total value of $1500. The other car, which was locked but showed no signs of forced entry, had only $2 in miscellaneous currency taken. There is no suspect information.

Police contacted Roderick Rutledge, 53, in the Pomona College parking structure at 295 east First Street around 12:50 p.m. Once contacted, officers found a bag of meth in his possession, Lt. Walters said. He was arrested, taken to CPD jail, booked and cited out.

A Claremont man was arrested after apparently scratching a victim during a verbal argument. Police arrived to a home on the 500 block of North Towne Avenue on a battery call and determined the 28-year-old man had scratched the 22-year-old female victim. He was arrested on suspicion of battery and taken to CPD jail.

Thursday, October 31

A 17-year-old girl was arrested at the Webb Schools days after she assaulted a 17-year-old boy on campus. The fight occurred on October 23 but was reported on October 31, Lt. Walters said. The girl is accused of striking the victim several times in the head around 11:30 a.m., causing a mild concussion. She was arrested and taken to CPD jail, where she was later cited out.

Halloween night ended on a down note for one Claremont man after he was arrested for leaving the scene of a traffic accident and driving under the influence. 55-year-old Ruben Granados crashed into another car at Oxford Drive and Base Line Road and left the scene. A witness who was apparently following Mr. Granados called police, and they found him in the area of Foothill Boulevard and College Avenue. They determined Mr. Granados was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The driver of the other car suffered an injury to their left arm, and Mr. Granados was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury and hit and run.

A car on the 900 block of west Arrow Highway had its front window smashed by an unknown thief between 9 p.m. on October 31 and 5 p.m. on November 1. Despite the theatrics, nothing was taken from the car.

Sunday, November 3

A Redlands man was arrested for DUI and drug possession after he jumped a curb in front of a Claremont police officer. After the officer witnessed the reckless driving, they stopped the car near Arrow and Garey around 1 a.m. The driver, 29-year-old Colton Alvarado, was unlicensed, under the influence, and in possession of meth and a meth pipe, Lt. Walters said. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.
