Tuesday, October 22

Two men were arrested after being uncooperative with police at Blaisdell Park. Police were called to the park around 3 p.m. after a witness claimed they heard two people arguing near the restrooms, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. When 28-year-old Robert Castro and 49-year-old Gerald Gutierrez were contacted, they didn’t comply with officers’ demands and tried to walk away. Both were arrested for obstruction. Mr. Gutierrez also had a warrant in another county under a different name.

A laptop valued at about $1,000 was stolen from a car on the 600 block of Sycamore Avenue. Between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., the unknown thief entered the Chevy Cruze, took the laptop and left undetected, Lt. Walters said. There were no signs of forced entry to the car.

Thursday, October 24

Two people were arrested on drug charges at the Claremont Lodge. Police arrived to the motel around 9:30 a.m. and found 35-year-old Marissa Huguez of Pomona in one of the rooms. Ms. Huguez was on probation, and was believed to be under the influence. Her companion, 36-year-old Alex Gonzalez of Hesperia, was allegedly in possession of a meth pipe. They were arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Another car was burglarized at the Evey Canyon turnout. Between 2:40 p.m. and 5 p.m., the unknown suspect shattered the passenger window of the victim’s Toyota Corolla, taking a backpack that contained a wallet with credit cards and the victim’s ID. The cards were used at a number of locations in Upland, Lt. Walters said.

Police patrolling the area of Foothill Boulevard and Lynoak Drive found 23-year-old Jeremy Uribe in the roadway around 6 p.m., Lt. Walters said. Officers determined Mr. Uribe was under the influence and he was arrested.

Police are investigating an assault that occurred at Claremont High School. Around 1 p.m., two juvenile boys allegedly threw a trashcan at the 14-year-old male victim. The boy suffered undetermined injuries and was taken off-campus for treatment, Lt. Walters said. Police are currently doing follow-up on the incident.

Saturday, October 26

Police arrested 34-year-old Gary Huerta after he was caught driving a stolen Toyota Prius. Officers found the car as it was parked at the 7-Eleven on 730 east Foothill Boulevard around 2:30 a.m., Lt. Walters said. The car had been stolen on October 7 out of North Hollywood. Mr. Huerta was arrested without incident on charges of grand theft auto and possession of a stolen car.

Sunday, October 27

Another stolen car was recovered, but not before the driver led police on a short pursuit up Mountain Avenue. Officers picked up on the stolen GMC Yukon at San Jose Avenue and Indian Hill Boulevard. When they tried to stop it near Mountain Avenue, the driver, 27-year-old Daniel Maturino of Pomona, accelerated and led police on a short pursuit, Lt. Walters said. The pursuit ended when Mr. Maturino lost control of the SUV at Mountain and Arrow and crashed into a pole. He tried to flee on foot but was caught about 50 yards away from the scene. He was arrested on charges of felony evading, grand theft auto and resisting arrest and taken to CPD jail.

Monday, October 28

An Upland man was arrested on suspicion of child abuse after getting into a fight with a 16-year-old boy at Motel 6. Details are sketchy, but Lt. Walters said 34-year-old John Renney arrived to the motel to visit a woman he was in a relationship with. An argument started during the course of the visit, and Mr. Renney allegedly assaulted the boy, who may have been the son of the woman Mr. Renney was seeing. The police were called, and Mr. Renney was arrested and taken to CPD jail. The boy was not injured and was not taken to a hospital.
