Claremont Craft Ales was awarded a gold medal for its American IPA beer, Station 101, last week at the 33rd 2019 Great American Beer Festival competition in Denver, Colorado.

The GABF is the world’s largest commercial beer competition, recognizing the best brews in the United States. It includes 107 beer categories covering 174 different styles.

CCA’s Station 101 was recognized with a gold medal in the double hoppy red beer-style category. The deep red beer gets its appearance from highly kilned crystal malts, and its stiff bitterness from a heavy dose of Columbus hops. It’s rounded out with earthy and tropical aromas from Citra, Simcoe, and Ekuanot dry hopping, which leaves a dank and rich IPA.

“We’re truly floored here at CCA,” said Simon Brown, owner and CEO. “When we started this adventure as a couple of inexperienced home brewers eight years ago, we never dreamed we could win a GABF medal, let alone three medals in three years! We are always working to improve the quality of our beers, so it’s very encouraging to see that commitment recognized by awards such as this.”

Some 9,497 entries were submitted in the GABF competition. The beer was made by 2,295 breweries from across the nation. Judging took place over the course of three days, with an international panel of 322 judges from 18 countries. 

Claremont Craft Ales started small in 2012 with a focus on bringing fresh craft beer to the local Claremont community. It has won numerous awards including three Great American Beer Festival medals.
