Police blotter 9-16-19
Friday, August 2
Police received information that Steven Barragan, 29, of Claremont was looking into a bedroom window off of El Camino Way. Mr. Barragan had been arrested the week prior for prowling at the same home. Officers searched the area, and located him riding a mountain bike through Blaisdell Park. When the bicycle was described over the radio, the on-duty dispatcher recognized the description as a bicycle that had been stolen the previous day from a 13-year-old while the teen was volunteering at the Claremont Library. Mr. Barragan was arrested for prowling, possession of stolen property and violation of parole. The bicycle was later returned to the teen.
Tuesday, August 6
A Claremont man was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and being under the influence. Police were called to a home on the 1800 block of Salem Court around 10:40 a.m. regarding a domestic dispute between the man and a 49-year-old woman, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. After the investigation, the 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to CPD jail. The victim did not need medical attention, Lt. Walters said.
Wednesday, August 7
Justin Sweeten, 32, was arrested on drug charges early Wednesday morning. Police contacted Mr. Sweeten at 2 a.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Towne Avenue and noticed he was under the influence. He was arrested and taken to jail.

Roughly $525 worth of goods was taken from an unlocked Toyota Prius on the 500 block of west 12th Street. Between 8 p.m. on August 7 and 7:30 a.m. on August 8, the unknown thief opened the car door and took items including glasses and a garage door opener. There is no suspect information.

Another car fell victim to thieves on the 100 block of north Mountain Avenue. Between 4 p.m. on August 7 and 3 p.m. on August 8, someone entered an unlocked car and took change, diabetic blood testing strips, a blood pressure cuff and a dog carrier totaling $130 in value, Lt. Walters said. No suspect information was available.
Thursday, August 8
A would-be home burglar certainly didn’t anticipate the owner would point a gun at him. Michael Perez, 29, from Whittier, allegedly tried to break into a home on the 1500 block of Whittier Avenue through the back sliding glass door around 10:20 p.m., Lt. Walters said. The owner was home at the time, and reportedly held Mr. Perez at gunpoint until police arrived. Mr. Perez was arrested on suspicion of burglary, and also for possession of meth and a parole violation.
Friday, August 9
Two people were arrested after getting caught behind the wheel of a stolen Nissan Altima. Officers first found the stolen car at Towne Avenue and Foothill Boulevard around 1 p.m., and pulled it over on the 400 block of Grove in Pomona. The driver, 46-year-old Carlos Tapia of Pomona, was arrested. A passenger with a warrant out for her arrest was also taken into custody.

Claremont police would like to know who took a Sharpie pen and drew a picture of a naked man at the skate park. The lewd graffiti was drawn on August 9 or August 10. So far, the contributor to Claremont’s public art collection has yet to come forward.
Sunday, August 11
Two mailboxes on the 2600 block of San Andres Way were broken into sometime between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. It is currently unknown what was taken. The mailboxes cost $100 and $50 to fix, respectively.

An Ohio man was arrested on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child after witnesses saw him allegedly taking photos of an underage girl’s buttocks at Our Lady of the Assumption church. The incident took place around 2 p.m. during a church service, Lt. Walters said. When police arrived, 56-year-old Orlando Henderson “did not deny taking he photographs,” Lt. Walters said. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail, where he was held for court.
