Police Blotter 6-14-19

Tuesday, June 4

Around $700 worth of staging furniture was apparently stolen from a home on the 700 block of Miramar. Just after the home, which is currently for sale, was shown to prospective buyers around 4:30 p.m., an unknown suspect went in and took a couch and a mirror, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said. There was no sign of forced entry, and police have no suspect description.

 

Wednesday, June 5

Claremont police arrested a man in connection with a battery and strong-arm robbery that occurred on May 5. Joe Llamas, a 28-year-old Claremont man, is accused of committing battery on a relative during an altercation on the 600 block of College Avenue and forcibly taking the victim’s cell phone before fleeing. A warrant was issued for Mr. Llamas, and he was found in Ontario on June 5 and arrested on suspicion of battery and robbery.

A Pomona man was arrested for drugs and warrants at the Claremont Lodge. Officers were on a welfare check at the motel around 5 a.m. when they found 36-year-old Jose Negrete, who had five warrants out for his arrest. Mr. Negrete initially gave a false name to police, and officers determined he was under the influence and in possession of a meth pipe, Lt. Walters said. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

 

Thursday, June 6

Two cars were broken into at the Claremont Village Apartments on the 900 block of Arrow Highway. Between 1:50 and 1:58 a.m., an unknown suspect smashed the windows of two cars, taking a credit card holder worth $15 from one car and a pair of headphones worth $10 in the other, Lt. Walters said. A witness saw the second break-in, but could only describe the suspect as a Hispanic man leaving the scene in an unknown sedan.

 

Friday, June 7

A Pomona man was arrested after allegedly being found with meth and a meth pipe in Blaisdell Park. Officers were on foot patrol in the park around 2 a.m. when they found 25-year-old Alfonso Diaz, who was in the park with an unidentified female. During a search, police found the drugs, and Mr. Diaz was taken into custody. The woman was not arrested.

Police arrested a man after catching him behind the wheel of a stolen car. Around 6:10 a.m., police ran a plate on a black 1999 Honda Civic near Wharton Drive and Cambridge Avenue and discovered it was stolen, Lt. Walters said. The driver, 26-year-old Christian Hernandez, was taken into custody without incident on suspicion of grand theft auto.

A 17-year-old girl is in hot water after apparently crashing her car into a tree and leaving the scene. A witness saw the girl collide into a city tree on the 300 block of Sycamore Avenue around 2:30 p.m., Lt. Walters said. Police eventually found the car, complete with front-end damage, at a home on the 300 block of West Point Drive. Police determined the teen was also driving without a license. She was arrested, booked on misdemeanor hit and run and driving without a license charges, and released to her parents.

A purse containing a wallet, ID card and $400 in cash was swiped from a car parked in front of the Sprint Store on Auto Center Drive. Between 2:15 and 3:15 p.m., the unknown thief reached into the open window of the car and took the purse and fled in an unknown direction. Police are investigating.

 

Saturday, June 8

A San Diego man was arrested for DUI and hit and run after he allegedly backed into another car while leaving the Denny’s parking lot. After the collision occurred around 2:30 a.m., police caught up with 21-year-old Douglas Flowers at BC Café, where he was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested.

Nearly $1,000 worth of goods was taken from a car near the corner of Shelter Grove and Turning Bend Drive between 9 and 10 a.m. The unidentified thief smashed the passenger side window of the car and took a purse with multiple credit cards inside, Lt. Walters said. The cards were used at locations in San Dimas and Glendora. Police are investigating.

 

Sunday, June 9

Two men were arrested after getting caught with a stolen BMW 328i. Officers pulled the Bimmer over near Towne Avenue and Arrow Highway around 3 a.m., Lt. Walters said. The driver, 30-year-old Rafael Juarez, allegedly had a meth pipe on him and a warrant. The passenger initially gave a false name to police, but was later identified as 40-year-old Javier Carmona of Pomona. Both were arrested and taken to CPD jail.

A Claremont man was arrested on a domestic battery charge following an incident on the 2200 block of Oxford Avenue. Police were called to the home around 4:30 a.m., and determined that 58-year-old John Steevens allegedly “used physical force” against the female victim, Lt. Walters said. She was not transported to the hospital. Mr. Steevens was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Another man was arrested for domestic battery, this time at the Knight’s Inn. Police were called to the motel around 10:40 p.m. regarding a battery between two people. After an investigation, 21-year-old Anthony Marin of Upland was arrested for battery after getting into a “physical altercation” with the female victim, Lt. Walters said. The victim was not taken to a hospital.
