Police employees take first place in Claremont flower show

The Woman’s Club of Claremont and the Claremont Garden Club held its third annual Claremont Flower Show the weekend of April 14.

This year, the flower show included a new special category for organizations to enter an arrangement to represent the purpose of the group. Employees from the police department entered the contest and took the first-place ribbon in the “Claremont Organizations” category.

The 2020 show will be open to the public on Friday, March 20 at the Woman’s Club of Claremont. It is free to visit and free to submit an entry, and is open to everyone regardless of where you live or how old you are.

The Garden Club meets the second Wednesday of most months in the Napier Center at Pilgrim Place (660 Avery Rd.) in Claremont. Chatting and plant swapping begins at 6:30 p.m. with the talk at 7 p.m.

Field trips and workshops occur at various times. Potlucks are held in December and July, in addition to the flower show. The club also organizes the annual garden tour, “Claremont Eclectic: A tour of six local gardens,” which takes place in April each year.

As stated on its website, claremontgardenclub.org, the purpose of the Garden Club “shall be to increase the beauty, sustainability, and biodiversity of local landscapes, to provide education, and to foster helpful and pleasant interactions among those with an interest in gardens of any type, from ornamental to urban agriculture.”
