Police blotter 3-5-19

Tuesday, March 26

A woman on Radcliffe Drive got an unwanted surprise when she found out someone had used her credit card to rent a U-Haul. She found out when the moving van company called her after the truck was returned damaged, according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. There is no suspect information, nor was it known where the moving van was rented.

A resident on the 800 block of Harrison Avenue called police to report that someone had stolen checks from the mailbox and were using them throughout the area. At least one check was passed in Pomona, and police are trying to figure out where other checks were used, Lt. Walters said. The total loss was $500, which the bank reimbursed to the victim. The checks were stolen between March 18 and March 26 at 10 p.m., and police are investigating.

Wednesday, March 27

Three people were arrested after a routine traffic stop yielded drugs and warrants. Around 11:40 a.m., an officer pulled over a car driven by 41-year-old Deidre Ralph of Pomona at Sumner Avenue and Foothill Boulevard for multiple traffic violations. The officer found that not only did Ms. Ralph have a warrant out of San Bernardino County, but also she allegedly had methamphetamine and a pipe, Lt. Walters said. A passenger, 48-year-old Francisco Vergara of Pomona, also allegedly had meth, and another passenger, 58-year-old Gilbert Griego of Pomona, allegedly had meth and heroin. All three were arrested.

Police are looking the driver of a car that hit a 20-year-old college student while she was riding her bicycle at Mills Avenue and Sixth Street. Around 5 p.m.,  a silver sedan struck the rear tire of the bicycle, causing the victim to fall off and slightly injure her foot. The car continued to drive after she fell. She was not taken to the hospital, and reported the incident to the police the following day.

Thursday, March 28

A worker doing tree maintenance at a home on the 1800 block of Morgan returned to their truck around 11 a.m. and found three chainsaws were missing, Lt. Walters said. All three chainsaws had a collective value of $2500. There is no suspect information, and police are investigating.

Two 14-year-old boys were arrested at Claremont High School on suspicion of robbery. According to Lt. Walters, the two boys approached a 15-year-old boy, took his cell phone and demanded the password. The victim refused, and the two boys gave the phone back to him. The police were called, and both boys were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They were brought to CPD jail, booked, and cited out to their parents.

Friday, March 29

Around 10:20 p.m., an officer saw two cars pulled over on Auto Center Drive after getting into a non-injury collision at Indian Hill and the 10 freeway, Lt. Walters said. One of the drivers, 46-year-old Jose Rodriguez-Torres of Pomona, was determined to be drunk, and he was arrested for DUI.

Saturday, March 30

Police arrested a Pomona man after he ran from officers. A police officer was on routine patrol on the 900 block of west Foothill Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. when he saw 20-year-old Ramon Cazarez in front of an undisclosed business. When the officer tried to contact him, Mr. Cazarez ran, leading police into a residential neighborhood on the 3000 block of Lansbury Avenue. He was caught there, and arrested in suspicion of resisting and obstructing.

Sunday, March 31

Around 2 p.m., police were called to a vacant property on the 200 block of Olive Street and found 40-year-old Andrew Bishop of Claremont, Lt. Walters said. During a pat down, police allegedly discovered a meth pipe. Mr. Bishop was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Monday, April 1

A  burglar broke into a car in a parking lot on the 800 block of west Foothill Boulevard, stole a purse, then left in a black two-door BMW with paper plates. An officer located the car a few minutes after the crime near Indian Hill and Foothill Boulevards, and followed it until Base Line and Padua, where he attempted to pull the driver over. The BMW took off onto the 210 freeway going east, Lt. Walters said. Officers attempted to follow the car, but due to excessive speeds and erratic driving, the pursuit was called off at Archibald Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga.

Between 2:45 a.m. and 8 p.m., a burglar broke into a home on the 600 block of Sycamore Avenue but left empty-handed—the home was in escrow and completely empty when the break-in occurred. The burglar left undetected, and police are investigating.
