Police blotter 3-29-19

Tuesday, March 19

A Bellflower man was arrested after police say he was under the influence of meth in front of Gus’s BBQ. Officers were called to the restaurant around 11:15 a.m., according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. They found 34-year-old Eddie Serpa acting under the influence, and found meth and needles in his backpack. Mr. Serpa was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth, being under the influence and possession of paraphernalia.

More meth was recovered later in the day around 3:20 p.m. after police pulled over the driver of a car at Towne Avenue and Richmond Drive for expired tags. Latisha Young, 49, of Pomona, was allegedly in possession of the stuff. She was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Wednesday, March 20

A former employee at John Elway Chrysler Jeep Dodge was arrested after he allegedly made criminal threats after getting fired. The incident occurred on March 16, when 58-year-old William Ortiz of Wildomar “made reference to a gun” after he was let go from the company, Lt. Walters said. Police were called on March 20, and while they were there, Mr. Ortiz returned. He allegedly also was in possession of meth and a meth pipe. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Police are looking for the driver of a car that hit a 23-year-old pedestrian while exiting Pepper Tree Square. Around 5 p.m., the gold sedan struck the victim as he was walking, causing pain to his right leg and arm. The driver did not stop, and the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The car was not located.

Between March 17 and March 20, an unknown burglar opened an unlocked garage on the 100 block of El Camino Way, taking a turquoise Giant 18-speed men’s mountain bike and a foldable canopy worth a total of $250. Police are investigating.

Thursday, March 21

An officer ran a license plate on a car parked at the Claremont Lodge around 1 p.m. and found it belonged to 21-year-old Ivy Crossland of Upland, who allegedly had warrants. Ms. Crossland met the officer in the parking lot, along with 28-year-old Tyler Perez of Rancho Cucamonga and 25-year-old Jason Willenborg of Corona. Both Mr. Perez and Mr. Willenborg were allegedly in possession of heroin, Lt. Walters said. All three were arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Police responded to a car collision on Briarcroft and Lynoak around 5:15 p.m., and found one of the cars involved, driven by Claremont resident Reynaldo Gonzales, 75, at Indian Hill and Base Line a short time later. Mr. Gonzales displayed symptoms of being intoxicated, and he was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Friday, March 22

A car battery was taken from a vehicle parked at the Claremont Gardens apartments. Between 8:30 p.m. on March 21 and 9:45 a.m. on March 22, the unknown suspect smashed the car’s window to open the hood and took the $300 battery.

Around 8:45 p.m., a burglar was seen prying open the sliding glass door at the Edgar Community Center at the Claremont School of Theology, breaking into a vending machine and taking an unknown amount of cash and coins. He was described as a Caucasian man, 40 to 45 years old, five feet, nine inches tall and 200 pounds wearing a black shirt, jeans, a black jacket and a black backpack.

A burglar entered a home on the 700 block of Gettysburg through an open window between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Lt. Walters said. Once inside, the burglar went through several rooms before leaving with $300 in jewelry and cash. No suspect information was available.

Sunday, March 24

Around 9:40 p.m., police allege that 19-year-old Damien Parks of Fontana collided with another car at Towne Avenue and Briarcroft, then continued driving until he got to Towne Park Circle, where he was detained, Lt. Walters said. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Pomona Valley Medical Center with unknown injuries. Police say Mr. Parks was suspected to be driving under the influence of marijuana, so he was arrested for DUI and hit and run.

Monday, March 25

A Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested on drug charges after he was allegedly inside Vons for two hours. Police were called to the supermarket at Mills and Base Line around 8:30 p.m., and found 49-year-old Thomas Heide allegedly in possession of heroin and needles. He was arrested and taken to jail.
