Boys volleyball

The Wolfpack won an exciting Hacienda League opening match, 3-2, on Tuesday against Diamond Ranch in Pomona. The Panthers won the first set, 25-22, but the Pack came charging back, 25-17, in the second. Diamond Ranch won the third, 25-19, but Claremont prevailed in the tiebreaker, 15-7.

Claremont also won two non-league home matches last week, 3-0, over Santiago on Friday and 3-0, over Eastside on Thursday.

The boys record is now 6-7 overall and 1-0 in league.

Boys tennis

Claremont ran over Alta Loma, 17-1, in the boy’s league opener on Tuesday at home. The previous day they had a tight non-league match against St. Francis, 9-9, that was decided in Claremont’s favor on games. Claremont is now 6-1 and 1-0 in league.

Softball

Claremont has an early 1-3 league record, however, several of the Pack’s losses have been close.

The girls lost the league opener at an away match against Alta Loma, 8-6. Claremont came out strong and was ahead 6-1, but the Braves had a seven run seventh inning, sealing Claremont’s fate.

Last Friday Claremont got a 4-1 win over Colony in Ontario. The Pack had a solid game—scoring in the first, fifth and seventh innings and only missed the shut out when the Titans scored in the seventh. Lauryn Olguin had three hits, including two triples, two runs and an RBI. Makayla Romeo had two hits and one run. Katlin Entrup earned the win, pitching seven innings, striking out nine and only walking one.

On Saturday, Claremont hosted Glendora in a match that was rescheduled because of the recent rains. Claremont was ahead, 4-2, into the sixth inning but the Tartans came alive, scoring two runs in the seventh and throwing the game into extra innings. Glendora had a big eighth inning taking on three more runs earning the win.

On Wednesday, Bonita blanked Claremont, 10-1, at home. No stats for the game were available at press time.

Baseball

Claremont is having a tough start to Palomares League play, losing their first four games. The good news is that two of those losses were close, so the situation could easily improve.

On March 1 Claremont lost their league opener to Alta Loma, 3-2, at CHS. The Braves scored two runs in the fourth inning, but the Pack tied the game in the fifth, only to see Alta Loma go back ahead in the sixth.

There was another close game on March 8, this time against Colony in Ontario. The Titans came out big, scoring nine runs in the first two innings, but Claremont also scored big getting one run in the first inning and four in the fourth. Colony tacked on two more, and even a seventh inning rally by Claremont was not enough, as Colony won 11-9.

Glendora was a much tougher opponent, getting a decisive 10-2 win on March 9 in Glendora, and on Wednesday Bonita blanked the Pack, 7-0 at home.

Claremont travels to Chino Hills on Friday to face first place Ayala, and a second round game against Alta Loma on Wednesday.
