Commercial burglars nabbed on BMX bicycles
Claremont police officers arrested two suspects for a commercial burglary, thanks to a proactive victim and video surveillance evidence. On Saturday, February 9 at 12:45 p.m., officers were called to the 400 block of W. Arrow Highway regarding a burglary investigation.
Surveillance video showed two males on BMX bicycles casing the business at 11:45 p.m. on the previous night. The next morning at approximately 3 a.m., the men returned in a white Toyota Corolla, which was later determined to be stolen, and burglarized the building.
At approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, the victim was watching the surveillance cameras and saw the two men return to the property. Photos of the suspects were sent to officers on patrol.
One officer located and detained one of the suspects, who was found riding his BMX bike west of the business on Arrow Highway.
A second suspect was seen riding his BMX bike east through the gas station at Arrow and Indian Hill. Another officer located and detained that suspect nearby. After further investigation, both men were identified as the suspects on the video and arrested for burglary, within 25 minutes of the original call for service.
Claremont police arrested Richard Valenzuela, 53, from Pomona and Can Phao, 34, from Pomona. Both men are being held at the Claremont city jail for court appearances at Pomona Superior Court on February 13.
