Free camp for children of parents suffering from cancer
Camp Kesem at The Claremont Colleges, which supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer, has announced it is now accepting online applications for its free summer camp session. To learn more or to register a child, visit kesem.org.
Camp Kesem is the largest national organization dedicated to this unique population. This camping experience and Kesem’s year-round support has a lasting impact on children by providing them a peer-support network that understands their unique needs, builds confidence and strengthens their communication skills.
In the summer of 2018, nearly 9,000 children attended free summer camps during more than 100 weeklong sessions at Camp Kesem sites from coast-to-coast.
Camp Kesem is organized locally in Claremont by students from The Claremont Colleges. In summer 2019, Camp Kesem at The Claremont Colleges will host 40 campers from July 28 to August 2 at Lions Camp at Teresita Pines.
Children attending camp will participate in a host of activities including rock climbing, capture the flag, science workshops, and many more. Nightly “cabin chats” allow campers to open up to their peers and counselors.
Camp Kesem is provided free of charge to all participating families and is therefore supported by private donations and community support. It is operated by student volunteers and serves more than 30 campers ages 6 to 18 every year.
