Wednesday, January 2

Two Upland residents were arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop. Campus Safety called police around 2 a.m. after they saw a truck being driven suspiciously on the 600 block of Ninth Street around 2 a.m., according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. Officers found the truck nearby on Arrow Route and pulled it over. The driver, 30-year-old Matthew Duke, was allegedly under the influence of drugs while behind the wheel, and a passenger, 23-year-old Sadie James, was also allegedly under the influence and in possession of a meth pipe. Both were arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Thursday, January 3

Police are investigating a theft at Foothill Country Day School. Tree trimmers working at the school reported that four of their backpacks were stolen as they were on the job, Lt. Walters said. The theft occurred between 8 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. Only one of the bag’s contents was available—it had a wallet, an ID card and debit card and about $90. Police are investigating.

Friday, January 4

Another airbag was stolen from a car at the Claremont Village Apartments on the 900 block of West Arrow Highway. Between January 2 and January 4, the unknown thief smashed a window to the victim’s Honda Accord and stole the driver’s side airbag, valued at $2,000. There is no suspect information. Several airbags have been stolen from cars at the apartment complex over the past few months, as reported in the COURIER.

Police are investigating a fraudulent purchase of a dog collar. A resident called police on January 4 after they found someone had used their credit card information to purchase the collar from Chewy.com in the past few weeks. The collar was worth about $127.

Sunday, January 6

Two men were arrested after police allegedly found them with drugs and counterfeit money. Officers were called to 420 Auto Center Drive around 1 p.m. after a witness claimed to see two men possibly casing the area for a robbery. One of the men, 31-year-old Michael Woll of Claremont, was reportedly in possession of cocaine and the fake bills, as well as multiple sandwich bags of methamphetamine and a meth pipe. He was also on post-release community supervision for drugs charges. The other man, 36-year-old Ramon Montes of Montclair, had a no-bail warrant for his arrest. Mr. Woll was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs and possession with intent to sell, and both men were taken to CPD jail.

Claremont Optometry, at 695 W. Foothill Blvd., was burglarized in the early morning of January 6, according to a release from the Claremont Police Department. Just after 5:30 a.m., officers responded to the optometry business after its burglary alarm activated. Police learned that an unknown suspect had thrown two large bricks into the store, reached in through a hole in the window and shattered another glass display containing Oakley glasses. The suspect reached in and took an unknown amount of glasses, police said. There are no leads on suspects, and police are investigating.

Monday, January 7

Police are investigating an early-morning burglary at Mr. You’s Express on 402 Auto Center Drive. Officers responded to a burglary alarm at the restaurant around 3:10 a.m. and discovered a burglar had shattered the front glass door, police said. An unknown amount of cash was taken from the register, and the burglar fled undetected, police added. An investigation is ongoing.

Police are looking into a vandalism incident at the city hall restrooms. The unknown tagger used a gold paint marker and wrote “unintelligible” words, letters and writings on the walls of the women’s restroom, Lt. Walters said. The tagging was discovered just before 7 a.m.

Five units at Extra Space Storage at 525 west Arrow Highway were broken into. The break-ins were reported on January 7, but it was unknown when they occurred and what was taken. Police are investigating.
