Police blotter 11-2-18

Tuesday, October 23

Police are investigating a burglary at a home on the 200 block of Miramar Drive.  Between 6:15 and 6:45 p.m., two suspects removed the screen from the back window of a house and made entry, according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. It is unknown what was taken from the house. Little is known about the burglars, but police are looking for a black Toyota Camry that may have been involved.

Wednesday, October 24

A fully-loaded assault rifle was found inside an SUV on the 2000 block of east Base Line Road. Police were initially suspicious of the Ford Explorer as it moved from one end of Base Line to another. The passengers in the SUV—50-year-old Diane Barcellau of Covina and 42-year-old Monique Barcellau of El Monte—were apparently having car trouble and enlisted the help of a third person, 26-year-old Constantino Mendoza of Colton, Lt. Walters said. A witness who suspected a car burglary was taking place called police around 6:52 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a fully-loaded AR-15 rifle, along with two magazine, underneath a blanket in the Barcellaus’ car. Diane Barcellau and Mr. Mendoza were also allegedly found with meth pipes, while Monique Barcellau allegedly had meth on her. All three were arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Just before 7 p.m., David Dickinson, 59, was allegedly loitering in front of the main entrance at the DoubleTree Hotel and banging on the windows, causing the security guard to ask him to leave. Mr. Dickinson reportedly refused and tried to headbutt the guard, but he was quickly restrained, Lt. Walters said. Police arrested him for being drunk in public and battery.

Friday, October 26

Another car was burglarized at the Evey Canyon turnout. Around 11 a.m., a white 1990s Ford Explorer occupied by two women in their 20s drove into the turnout. One of the women punched the window out of the victim’s Honda Accord, taking tennis rackets and Ping-Pong paddles, Lt. Walters said. Police are investigating.

Another home was broken into on the 300 block of Armstrong Drive. Around 6:45 p.m., two suspects broke the rear glass slider door and ransacked several bedrooms, leaving with an unknown amount of property. Police are investigating.

Saturday, October 27

Around 4:40 a.m., police found a car with the front bumper partially detached and dragging along the road near Colby Circle and Foothill Boulevard. The driver, 69-year-old Daniel Swana of Upland, found to be intoxicated and was arrested for DUI.

Around 5:30 a.m., police found a car on Cambridge Avenue just south of Bonita blocking a driveway. Police determined that the driver, 61-year-old Gerald Bence of Claremont, was drunk and he was arrested.

Between 1:30 and 5:45 p.m., a purse containing a wallet, keys, cash and makeup was taken from a Village Venture booth near First Street and Harvard Avenue, Lt. Walters said. No suspect information was available.

Sunday, October 28

A gym bag and some luggage were stolen from a car in the Wilderness Park parking lot between 9:30 and 11 a.m., The unknown thief smashed the right rear window and took the goods, as well as clothing and makeup. There is no suspect information.

Between 8 p.m. on October 27 and 12:40 p.m. on October 28, the thief opened an unlocked truck at the Claremont Gardens apartments and stole three BMX bikes from the back. The car next to the truck also had its window smashed, with the suspect getting away with miscellaneous CDs and a phone charger. There is no suspect information.

Monday, October 29

An Ontario man was arrested on drug charges during an unrelated theft investigation. Police were at a home on the 600 block of south College Avenue around 7 a.m. and found 28-year-old Fabio Moreno allegedly in possession of meth and a meth pipe. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Employees from Denny’s Restaurant called police around 8:15 p.m. after 21-year-old Deante Jackson of Pomona reportedly fell asleep at the restaurant and refused to pay his bill. Employees believed he tried to pull the same stunt a week earlier. Police arrived and arrested him for defrauding an innkeeper, but as he sat in the patrol car, Mr. Jackson somehow slipped his cuffs in front of him, which added a resisting and obstructing charge. He was taken to CPD jail.
