Three arrested after attempted Baskin Robbins burglary

Three people were arrested after a Claremont police officer caught an attempted burglary in the act.

The officer was patrolling the Vons shopping center around 1 a.m. on October 11 when he saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt in front of Baskin Robbins, Claremont police said in a release. Another person in a hoodie was seen crouching down near the front of the door, wearing gloves.

One of the subjects began to run, but he was caught near Baseline Road and Claremont Heights Drive after the officer gave chase, police said. The second subject also ran from the scene, but was not located.

During the investigation, police found a car with another suspect who was determined to be involved in the attempted caper as well, police said.

The final outstanding suspect was apprehended in Rialto on the 1800 block of West Coast Boulevard, police said.

Arrested was 34-year-old Javier Cornelia of Lynwood for attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and conspiracy; 21-year-old Nathan Vigil of Rialto for attempted burglary and conspiracy; and 33-year-old Valerie Karnes of Rialto for possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and conspiracy.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned at the Pomona Superior Court on October 15.
