Police blotter 7-20-18

Tuesday, July 10

Police are investigating another burglary of a car in Evey Canyon. Between 9:10 and 11 a.m., an unknown thief smashed a window of a parked Toyota Rav4, stealing a purse and wallet before fleeing undetected. There is no suspect information.

Wednesday, July 11

Claremont police are looking for whomever shattered the window of a Cadillac Escalade on the 800 block of Peninsula Avenue. Between 10 a.m. and 4:40 p.m., the unknown vandal smashed the window of the SUV, which was parked in the driveway, according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. Nothing was taken from the SUV, and police are treating it as a vandalism case.

Thursday, July 12

An Upland man was arrested after he was seen allegedly casing bike racks in front of Frary Dining Hall. Police were called to the cafeteria on the 600 block of Sixth Street around 3:20 a.m. They found 36-year-old Carlos Padilla, who was allegedly found to have a warrant out for his arrest, as well as a meth pipe.

A scary moment for one homeowner has police looking for a suspected prowler. Around 5 a.m., a resident on the 800 block of Reed saw a man open the gate to the backyard of the resident’s home. The homeowner yelled at the man, and the man fled the scene. Police were unable to locate the prowler, and he could only be described as a Hispanic man wearing light-colored clothing. Anyone with information should call Claremont police at (909) 399-5411.

A South Gate woman was arrested after a routine traffic stop unveiled an apparent credit card theft operation. Police puled over a car driven by 29-year-old Charlene Dix-Arnott around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Towne Avenue and Alvarado Street in Pomona for expired registration. Ms. Dix-Arnott was driving without a license, and a further check of her car allegedly revealed numerous gift cards, blank credit cards and a binder full of credit card numbers. She was arrested for possession of unlawful credit card information and taken to CPD jail.

Friday, July 13

Julio Marin, 31, of Pomona, was riding his bicycle at 3:20 a.m. on the 200 block of east Foothill when police stopped him for having no lights. According to police, Mr. Marin told officers he had meth in his sock.

Three storage containers were broken into at Mountain View Elementary. The thieves burglarized the containers sometime between 8 p.m. on July 12 and 7:30 a.m. on July 13. Despite the effort, the thieves apparently only took a dolly and a milk crate. Police are investigating.

Around 9:45 p.m., a burglar shattered the rear laundry room window of the home on the 600 block of Mt. Carmel and entered, ransacking the master bedroom and getting away with a box of jewelry. Witnesses saw the suspect flee the home in a white four-door car. He was described as a Caucasian man, five feet, seven inches tall and 180 pounds with brown hair and wearing a red shirt and tan shorts.

Saturday, July 14

Between 10:40 a.m. on July 13 and 11:40 a.m. on July 14, a burglar entered the Claremont City Blessing church on the 700 block of South Mills Avenue through an unlocked utility room, Lt. Walters said. Surveillance footage from the church showed the suspect, who is described as a Caucasian man in his 30s, around five feet, eight inches tall and 140 pounds with brown hair and facial hair. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a yellow shirt and basketball shorts, and was seen leaving on a mountain bike. Despite the break-in, nothing was taken from the church.

A Claremont teen was arrested after he allegedly stole a golf cart on the Pomona College campus. Ryan Williams, 18, was arrested after campus safety saw him in the golf cart in a parking lot around 9 p.m. Mr. Williams had been escorted off the property earlier in the evening, but returned to campus to take the cart on a joy ride.

Sunday, July 15

A South Gate man was arrested for grand theft auto and DUI after he crashed a car on the 700 block of Lindenwood Drive. Police were called to the scene around 1:45 p.m. after witnesses saw a red Nissan 240, driven by 39-year-old Juan Lucero, crash into a planter. Upon further investigation, police found the car had been stolen, Mr. Lucero was reportedly drunk, and was in possession of burglary tools.
