Police blotter 6-15-18
Tuesday, June 5
A $500 Trek women’s bicycle was stolen from an open garage. Between 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., the thief entered the garage on the 1600 block of Tulane Road and made off with the bike undetected. There is no suspect information.
Wednesday, June 6
Two people were arrested for resisting and obstructing after trying to flee from police in the Motel 6 parking lot. Around 11:20 p.m., an officer on patrol at the motel tried to pull over the driver of a Dodge Charger occupied by four people. The driver refused to stop, and two occupants got out and fled the scene before the car stopped at the 10 east on-ramp, according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. One of the runners, 19-year-old Delbert O’Brien of Pomona, was arrested, but the other runner escaped. The driver, 29-year-old Cecil Anderson of Pomona, was also arrested.

High school may be coming to a close for the summer, but someone wanted to go out with a bang. Officers were called to Claremont High School after someone spray-painted “2018 Melvin was here” and three marijuana leaves on a wall near the football field, Lt. Walters said. The graffiti was cleaned up, and there is no suspect information.
Thursday, June 7
Around 9:30 a.m., an officer pulled over a car driven by 26-year-old Steven Monroe of Pomona for a routine traffic violation near Indian Hill and San Jose, Lt. Walters said. During a check of the car, the officer found a loaded semiautomatic handgun underneath the driver’s seat. Mr. Monroe was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

A 59-year-old woman who was reported missing from Cathedral City was found apparently doing yoga in the middle of a Claremont street, according to police logs. When police arrived around 5:15 p.m., the woman was standing by her car near the intersection of Berkeley Avenue and University Circle, Lt. Walters said. She was found to be in good health and taken off the missing person’s database. There was no further information available.

Two people were arrested at the Chevron/McDonalds after police interrupted an apparent drug deal in progress. Around 9:40 p.m., the officer allegedly noticed a hand-to-hand narcotics transaction at the gas station between 56-year-old Phillip Brock of Pomona and 27-year-old James Saylor of Montclair, Lt. Walters said. During an investigation, Mr. Brock allegedly had meth and a pipe on him, and Mr. Saylor was reportedly in possession of a pipe. Both were arrested and transported to CPD jail.

Claremont Colleges Campus Safety briefly detained a man who was allegedly asking students if he could take videos of their feet. The 21-year-old man was stopped at the Platt Campus Center on the 300 block of east Foothill Boulevard around 8:15 p.m., according to police logs. The man was not arrested, but he was advised of trespassing and sent on his way. No report was written.
Friday, June 8
An Upland man was arrested for giving two false names to police at the Shell gas station near Indian Hill and San Jose. Around 1 p.m., police checked on the man, who was later identified as 27-year-old Jason Willenberg. When officers found Mr. Willenberg’s true name through a fingerprint scan, they discovered he had a whopping six warrants out for his arrest out of two counties. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.
Saturday, June 9
A Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested on drug charges during a routine check at Motel 6. Around midnight, police contacted 33-year-old Trinidad Limon, and found he was on probation and had two warrants out for his arrest, Lt. Walters said. A further check of Mr. Limon’s car revealed he allegedly had meth and a meth pipe as well. He was arrested and transported to CPD jail.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for DUI just after midnight. An officer noticed a car traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Monte Vista Avenue, Lt. Walters said. The officer pulled the car over near Padua and Amarillo. The teenage driver, who was from Pomona, exhibited clear signs of being under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for DUI and transported to jail.

A Pomona man was arrested after stealing a bike from an open garage on the 100 block of Princeton Avenue. The bike was taken around 12:30 p.m., and officers noticed the bike being walked near the intersection Arrow Highway and Cambridge Avenue by 26-year-old Joe Guardado a short time later. Mr. Guardado admitted to police that he had stolen the bike, Lt. Walters said, and he was arrested for burglary and transported to CPD jail.
