Police arrest El Roble student for making criminal threat
An El Roble Intermediate School student was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making a criminal threat toward the school.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, when a 13-year-old female student reportedly told a small group of other students that “she was going to shoot up the school tomorrow,” El Roble principal Scott Martinez said in an email.
Mr. Martinez contacted the Claremont Police Department, and after an interview, the student confirmed she did not have access to any weapons. However, she was still arrested for making a threat against the school, he wrote.
Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department confirmed that the student was arrested at 9:52 a.m. Tuesday morning on suspicion of making a verbal criminal threat against the school. She was taken to CPD jail, where she was released on a citation to her parents.
“Student safety continues to be a top priority for our school and district,” Mr. Martinez wrote in the email. “I would like to remind all El Roble students of the importance of reporting any potential threats immediately so that swift action can be taken.”
This is the third incident since February where a local student was arrested on suspicion of making threats against a school.
On February 23, a 15-year-old girl was arrested after she allegedly threatened to “shoot up” Claremont High School, and a 14-year-old boy was arrested on March 13 for allegedly making an unspecified threat against Western Christian School.
