Police blotter 1-26-18

Monday, January 15

Officers picked up on a stolen gold Honda Accord near Foothill Boulevard and Towne Avenue at 9:20 p.m., according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. The driver, 33-year-old Froylan Urvita, allegedly stole the car in Pomona. He was arrested and booked at the CPD jail.

Tuesday, January 16

Police are looking for a man who reportedly swiped a purse while on a city bus. The theft occurred near the intersection of Arrow Highway and Claremont Boulevard at 6 p.m., Lt. Walters said. The thief, described as an African-American man in his 30s and six feet tall, took the purse, exited the bus and fled southbound. Claremont police and a bloodhound from Pomona PD tried to locate the suspect, but he was not found. Anyone with information should call Claremont police at (909) 399-5411.

Police are looking for a group of prowlers who were caught in front of a home on the 600 block of Mt. Carmel. The resident arrived home around 5 p.m. and saw a black Jeep Compass containing three unknown men and a fourth man standing at her front door. The man at the door asked for an individual who did not live there, and the group left after the resident threatened to call the cops. The man at the door was described as African-American, in his 20s, about five feet, eight inches tall and 150 pounds.

Wednesday, January 17

A gun was stolen from a parked car on the 600 block of Montgomery Circle. Between 10:45 a.m. on January 16 to 10:45 a.m. on January 17, an unknown thief picked the lock to the driver’s door of the car and entered the car and the trunk, getting away with the firearm. There is no suspect information. Anyone with tips should call the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

Thursday, January 18

Around 2:15 a.m., a homeowner on the 800 block of Huron Drive awoke to a thumping noise and found the front window of his home was shattered with a rock, Lt. Walters said. A window to his car was also smashed, and the tires were slashed. A rock was found next to the front window, which police believe was used in the attack. An investigation is ongoing.

A Moreno Valley woman was arrested for DUI after a three-car collision at Indian Hill Boulevard and First Street. Yolanda Cervantes, 30, failed a field sobriety test when police arrived to the scene around 3:15 p.m., Lt. Walters said. She was booked at the CPD jail and released. Nobody was injured in the collision.

A Victorville man was arrested for public intoxication after knocking on doors and asking “religious questions” to homeowners, according to police logs. Police arrived to the 400 block of Elder Drive around 4:37 p.m. after residents called regarding 37-year-old Dominic Oliver, who they feared may be under the influence. Mr. Oliver was determined to be too drunk to remain in public, and he was arrested and sent to CPD jail.

Friday, January 19

Police found a tan Chevy Tahoe that was stolen from Corona on the 800 block of Arrow Highway around 9:15 p.m., Lt. Walters said. The driver, 29-year-old Joselyn Gutierrez of Fontana, initially gave a false name to police and was arrested for grand theft auto, possession of stolen property and giving a false name to officers. The passenger, 25-year-old Yolanda Padilla of Pomona, had a warrant out for her arrest. Ms. Padilla was given a citation for the warrant and Ms. Gutierrez was held for court at CPD jail.

Saturday, January 20

A Pomona woman was arrested after swiping other customers’ drinks off the counter at the Starbucks at 810 S. Indian Hill Blvd. When officers arrived to the scene around 8:30 p.m., the manager told them 23-year-old Destiny Galbreath took someone else’s drink and refused to pay for it. Ms. Galbreath seemed matter-of-fact about the theft, telling police she stole the drink because she was thirsty. She was arrested for theft and released with a citation.

Monday, January 22

The holiday season went up in flames for one Claremont household. Officers responded to the 800 block of Scripps Drive after a witness saw two unknown men lighting a Christmas tree on fire in the middle of the street around 5:40 a.m., Lt. Walters said. The holiday arsonists were gone by the time police arrived, as was the fire.

Wednesday, January 24

Officers responded to an alarm at Rancho Beauty Supply at 548 E. Base Line Rd. just after 5 a.m. and discovered the front glass door was smashed and two hairdryers were stolen. The suspect is described as a male, five feet, seven inches tall to five feet, nine inches tall wearing a blue hooded jacket, a bandana over his face and black tennis shoes. He fled the scene in a gold colored minivan. Anyone with information should call the Claremont Police Department.
