Wilderness Park to close early this week due to excessive heat warning
As temperatures rise into the triple digits this week, Claremont is taking steps to help residents beat the heat.
The Claremont Hills Wilderness Park (CHWP) will close at 12 p.m. all week due to an excessive heat warning—from Tuesday, August 29 through Sunday, September 3, the city said.
The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts scorching temperatures throughout the week—104 degrees on Tuesday, 103 degrees on Wednesday, 103 degrees on Thursday and 101 degrees on Friday.
Should weather conditions change, updates will be posted on Claremont’s official website at ci.claremont.ca.us, the city said.
In addition, cool zones in the city will operate on extended hours, the city notes. The Blaisdell Center will be open on Monday, August 18 through Wednesday, August 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Blaisdell Center is located at 440 South College Avenue, Claremont.
The Hughes Center will be open on Monday, August 28 through Wednesday, August 30 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Hughes Center is located at 1700 Danbury Road in Claremont.
If you can’t get to the Blaisdell Center or Hughes Center, the Claremont Library and the Joslyn Center also double as cool zones.
The library is located at 208 Harvard Avenue and is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
