Two suspects arrested for burglary at storage facility
The Claremont Police Department estimates that 23 percent of the city’s commercial burglaries take place at Extra Space Storage, 525 W. Arrow Hwy., in Claremont.
On Sunday, July 30 between 3:05 p.m. and 3:19 p.m., unknown suspects burglarized seven storage units at the facility. The investigating officer discovered that the burglaries were captured on surveillance video, which indicated that one of the suspects had a storage unit at the location.
Detectives spent the next two days checking related addresses to the suspect, which led to the arrest of Marlana Alvarez, 40, of Pomona. Detectives continued to search for the remaining two suspects and located Jason Brown—a 40-year-old La Verne resident—at Ganesha Park in Pomona. Mr. Brown was in possession of a bicycle that had been stolen during the burglaries. The third identified suspect remains outstanding.
The Claremont Police Department has been actively working with management of Extra Space Storage to reduce the number of burglaries occurring at the location. The surveillance cameras capturing this crime were recently installed as a result of these efforts, according to police.
