Pomona man wanted for attempted murder has Claremont ties

A Pomona man arrested by Claremont police in March is now wanted in the attempted murder of his grandfather.

Sammeon Christian Waller, 25, is on the run after police found 82-year-old Robert McPherson suffering from head trauma in his home on the 2900 block of Gayridge Street in Pomona.

Police were called Friday on a welfare check to the home, where they found Mr. McPherson laying on the ground and bleeding after suffering “extreme head trauma,” according to a release from the Pomona Police Department. Mr. McPherson hadn’t been seen or heard from in several days.

Police identified Mr. McPherson as Mr. Waller’s grandfather. He was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition.

During an investigation, Pomona PD’s homicide unit determined Mr. McPherson had an active restraining order against Mr. Waller and his 2003 Honda Odyssey was missing, police said. Mr. McPherson’s van was found unoccupied Friday morning in Sacramento, where it was impounded.

Mr. Waller was last seen in downtown Sacramento in the area of 3rd street and J Street and may be using public transportation. He has no known ties to the Sacramento area, police said.

Pomona police have advised Mr. Waller should be considered armed and dangerous.

Mr. Waller was previously arrested at Claremont Manor on March 28 after he was found in one of the rooms at the retirement community. Claremont officers found a meth pipe in Mr. Waller’s laptop bag, and he was arrested on drug charges. It was not known at the time why Mr. Waller was at the Claremont Manor.

Mr. Waller is described as an African-American man, five feet, 11 inches tall and 175 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has “carpe diem” tattooed on his chest and a koi fish and an outline of California with the words “heart & soul” tattooed on his right arm.

Anyone with information should call the Pomona Police Department at (909) 620-2085.
