A burglar was sentenced to two years in state prison after he admitted to a break-in at the Packing House.
The burglary occurred on February 9 at approximately 1:30 p.m., when the two thieves, one of whom was identified as 20-year-old Joseph Ortega, stole $1,500 worth of property from an unlocked space in the building, according to Lt. Mike Ciszek of the Claremont Police Department. The victim was asleep during the burglary.
After an investigation, Mr. Ortega was arrested on March 16 and admitted to taking part in the burglary, Lt. Ciszek said. He was booked and later sentenced to two years in state prison.
The second suspect, a 14-year-old boy, was arrested on March 20. He also reportedly admitted to the crime and was booked and released on citation to his mother. He is due to appear in court on May 22.
