Thursday, February 2

Police are looking for a man who tried to burglarize Wolfe’s Market. The suspect kicked a glass window on the west side of the market just after 8 p.m., according to Lt. Mike Ciszek of the Claremont Police Department. Once inside, however, the burglar was spooked by the alarm and left without taking anything. He is described as a 30-yar-old Hispanic man, five feet, eight inches tall and 180 pounds with black hair. Anyone with information should call the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

Friday, February 3

Burglars entered a home on the 200 block of south Mills Avenue but left empty-handed. Sometime between 6:40 a.m. and 9:45 p.m., the burglars entered through a side door. They rummaged through the house but left without stealing anything. One suspect apparently left behind a black and silver cell phone at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

A man’s attempt to take flight left him grounded after a night of drinking. Richard Armenta, 41 from Azusa, was found “lying on his back with his arms spread out like an airplane” on the stairs at the northwest corner of Foothill Boulevard and Indian Hill just after 11 p.m. It took police multiple attempts to wake up the snoring Mr. Armenta. He was showing obvious signs of drunkenness, and reportedly told officers he thought he was in Ontario. He was arrested and slept it off in jail.

Saturday, February 4

A Fontana man tried and failed to get away with four bottles of Cognac and vodka from Super King Market. The attempted theft happened just before 8:30 a.m., when 53-year-old Nicholas Ellison was caught reportedly trying to get away with two bottles of Cognac and two bottles of vodka with a grand total of $340, Lt. Ciszek said. Mr. Ellison also had warrants out for his arrest. The liquor bandit was arrested and sent to CPD jail.

After a night of sing-alongs at Piano-Piano, 49-year-old Deanna Donaldson of Upland was reportedly arguing with her husband in the parking lot just before midnight when she jumped into their car to drive off. The victim apparently hopped on top of the car’s hood, and Ms. Donaldson drove through the lot with her husband on the car before braking, causing him to fall off. Ms. Donaldson then reportedly drove toward the victim, striking the right side of his body with the passenger side mirror of the car. When police arrived, they determined Ms. Donaldson was driving the car while drunk, and she was arrested for DUI and assault with a deadly weapon.

Sunday, February 5

Jaime Beltran, 28, of La Verne, hit a traffic signal pole while exiting off the 210 freeway at Towne Avenue around 11:15 p.m. Witnesses then saw Mr. Beltran get out of the car and run away. He was caught a short time later near the intersection of Base Line Road and Live Oak Canyon Road. He was arrested for DUI and hit and run.
