Police blotter 12-8-16

Tuesday, November 29

Eleven storage units were burglarized after a burglar cut the lock to Extra Space Storage on the 500 block of east Arrow Highway. The thief entered the business between midnight and 7:30 a.m., according to Lt. Mike Ciszek. Of the 11 units burglarized, the contents of only one was known by police—a leather jacket, a purse, a phone charger, clippers and miscellaneous clothing valued at $160.

A 79-year-old woman was airlifted to a hospital after getting hit by a motorist who then fled the scene. The woman was walking in a crosswalk just before 6 p.m. on the 600 block of west Bonita Avenue when the car, described as a dark- colored SUV, hit her. The woman suffered fractured ribs, a lacerated kidney, a fractured thumb, a fractured toe and lacerations to her face.

Wednesday, November 30

Two cars were broken into on the same block at around the same time. Between November 29 and November 30, an unknown burglar smashed the windows of two cars on the 500 block of Wayland Court. The burglars stole cassettes from one of the cars.

Police are looking for whoever broke into a home on the 400 block of Cinderella Drive. Between 12:12 and 5 p.m., the thief entered through an unlocked back door and ransacked the house, making off with $820 worth of property, including a watch, a concert band t-shirt and a security camera. Surveillance footage captured the suspect, who is described as an African-American man in his 30s, six feet, two inches tall and 200 pounds with black hair.

Police received reports of a man darting in and out of traffic around Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 freeway around 5:45 p.m. When police arrived, they found 25-year-old Matthew Higgins from Amarillo, Texas walking directly into the path of oncoming cars. He was nearly struck, as well as delaying traffic, Lt. Ciszek said. He was arrested and sent to CPD jail, where he was held for detox and released without charges.

Thursday, December 1

A homeowner received quite a scare after noticing a man tapping on the sliding glass door. The homeowner noticed the man just after 11 p.m. on the 1100 block of Northwestern Drive. According to the report, the prowler was rapping on the glass door with what looked like a stick before fleeing the area. Due to the darkness, he was only described as a Caucasian man wearing a dark jacket with white lettering and a hat or beanie. There was no trace of the prowler when police arrived, nor was there any evidence of disturbed property.

Friday, December 2

Police are looking for thieves who stole two motors that operated the gates in front of Foothill Country Day School. The theft occurred between 5 p.m. on December 2 and 8:15 a.m. on December 3. The two motors are valued at $5,000.

Saturday, December 3

A thief stole a display iPhone before getting away in a waiting car. The theft happened at the Sprint Store on the 400 block of Auto Center Drive around 11 a.m. According to police, a man walked into the cell phone store, stole the phone and got away in a dark-colored older model sedan driven by another man. The thief is described as an African-American man, five feet, five inches tall and 160 pounds with a gray hat and a gold necklace, Lt. Ciszek said.
