Ontario woman arrested for Claremont mail theft
Several residents in the neighborhood north of Base Line between Mills and Padua Avenues called police on Tuesday, September 6 to report that mail had been stolen. The suspect’s car was captured on surveillance cameras at one of the homes. Officers identified the car—a silver 2001 Honda Civic—and named a possible suspect.
On Thursday, September 8, a police officer saw the vehicle driving near Berkeley Avenue and Seventh Street. The driver, 53-year-old Christine Crane of Ontario, was arrested and additional mail that had just been stolen was found in her car, along with mail and packages from the previous thefts. A total of 16 victims of mail theft were identified. The majority of the missing items were located and returned to the owners.
