Claremont man arrested on child molestation charge
A Claremont man was arrested on suspicion of child molestation after reportedly touching a child inappropriately in a mall bathroom.
Richard Camarena, 45, was arrested on Saturday, July 23 at a Claremont residence, according to a release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Camarena is accused of touching the child while in a restroom at the Puente Hills Mall on Friday, July 8. He was identified and arrested through investigative resources and tips from the public, the sheriff’s department said. Mr. Camarena was arrested and booked at San Dimas Station on $100,000 bail.

A man on a bicycle was arrested after swiping a wallet and credit cards from a south Claremont business. Michael Orozco, 36, from Azusa, was in a business on the 700 block of South Indian Hill Boulevard around 4 p.m. when he saw the unattended wallet and took it. He reportedly used the credit cards at a couple of local businesses before getting caught near the intersection of Arrow Highway and Indian Hill, Lt. Mike Ciszek said. Mr. Orozco was arrested and charged with burglary, grand theft and receiving stolen property and transported to CPD jail.
Wednesday, July 20
A transient was arrested on a drunk in public charge after witnesses saw him fall into some bushes. Frank Mowrey, 54, was observed staggering and falling into the bushes around 6:40 p.m. on the 900 block of West Foothill Boulevard. When police arrived, they located 18 empty beer bottles and cans nearby, Lt. Ciszek said. According to police, Mr. Mowrey did not know the date or time and was having trouble standing.
Thursday, July 21
A midday pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended when the occupants unsuccessfully tried to escape on foot. Police located a gray 1997 Acura Integra near the area of Mountain Avenue and Vassar that was reported stolen out of San Bernardino County, Lt. Ciszek said. Police tried to pull the driver over, but the car did not stop and a pursuit ensued. The driver eventually made his way to a dead-end near Huntington Drive and First Street, at which point the occupants tried to flee on foot. They were both arrested near Arrow Highway in Montclair. The driver, 22-year-old Alejandro Martinez-Jaimez of Pomona, was hit with a stolen vehicle charge, and the passenger, 30-year-old Armando Ortiz-Hernandez of Pomona, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and obstruction.
Friday, July 22
Police are looking for a silver Jeep that may have something to do with a residential burglary on the 200 block of Monterrey Avenue. The break-in occurred between 10 a.m. and 9:10 p.m., when burglars forced open a sliding glass door. Although the master bedroom showed signs of being ransacked, there was no property loss reported. The victims returned to their home and saw a “suspicious” gray or silver Jeep parked in front of their home. After entering the home, they noticed the front door was open and the Jeep was gone, Lt. A vandalism suspect led police on a short chase through Claremont and onto the eastbound 10 freeway. Officers located a vehicle on the 800 block of Arrow Highway around 6:20 p.m. belonging to Adrian Alvarez of Pomona, who was wanted for punching and breaking off a mirror on a car on July 18. Mr. Alvarez didn’t stop, and led officers on a pursuit that ended near the Euclid Avenue on-ramp on the eastbound 10 freeway, Lt. Ciszek said. Mr. Alvarez was arrested for the pursuit and the vandalism and transported to CPD jail.
Saturday, July 23
An Upland woman was arrested on a warrant after reports came in to police of a group of people throwing knives at trees in a city park. Officers responded to Lewis Park around 7:40 p.m. Two people admitted to throwing the knives and one of them, identified as 23-year-old Stephanie Woodby, had a warrant out for her arrest. She was arrested and transported to CPD jail. There was no damage to the trees, Lt. Ciszek said.

A Pomona woman was arrested for DUI after crashing into another car at Foothill Boulevard and Colby Circle. Jessica Kerr, 41, was arrested around 8:40 p.m. after officers determined she was intoxicated, according to Lt. Ciszek. The victim in the other vehicle complained of pain to their neck and left knee, and was transported to a hospital for whiplash. Ms. Kerr was arrested for DUI causing injury and transported to CPD jail.
