The Los Angeles County Fair, which runs September 2 through September 25, is coming up fast. There is plenty on tap during the popular southern California event, including the End of Summer Concert Series, featuring a world-class lineup.

Some 70 percent of box seating is already sold out but there are still tickets for seating in the side sections available for most of the shows. Would-be concertgoers should move fast, however, because with close to a million dollars in ticket sales already, the fair is looking to do its best business in years.

The party starts Friday, September 7 with the Old School Funk & Soul Festival, featuring The Brothers Johnson, Rose Royce, Lakeside, Heatwave, Evelyn “Champagne” King and Jimmie Walker. Tickets are $30 to $95. Fair admission is included with ticket purchase.

The classic rock act Bad Company will perform on Saturday, September 3; the Mexican pop group Camila will perform on Sunday, September 4; the Isley Brothers and the O’Jays will perform on Monday, September 5; WAR, known for hits like “Cisco Kid” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” will perform on Thursday, September 8 with special guests Tierra and Malo; and Blondie, featuring the inimitable pop–punk chanteuse Debbie Harry, will perform with special guest The Smithereens on Friday, September 9.

The parade of talent continues with Australian rap sensation Iggy Azalea (“Work,” “Fancy”) on Saturday, September 10; comedian Gabriel Iglesias on his  #FluffyBreaksEven tour on Sunday, September 11; pop group DNCE (featuring Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers) with special guest rapper Lunchmoney Lewis on Thursday, September 15; and an “I Love the ‘90s” extravaganza featuring Vanilla Ice, Kid N Play, Color Me Badd, All 4 One, Tone Loc and Young MC on Friday, September 16; and country music performer Lee Brice on Saturday, September 17;

Still more acts follow, including the Mexican romantic music group Los Temerarios on Sunday, September 18; a country double-header with Billy Currington and LeAnn Rimes on Saturday, September 24; and hit-makers Chicago with special guest Grand Funk Railroad on Sunday, September 25.

The concerts are just the beginning of the things to see at the fair. Along with the usual free attractions like The Farm at Fairplex, some special family-friendly exhibits are planned, costing $5 on top of fair entrance price.

Anyone who has been to the fair knows there’s one inevitable element that comes along with food, rides and fun: extreme heat. One new attraction seeks to offer relief from the sun’s rays. The Igloo, a full-service ice-skating rink, sledding and shopping promenade, will bring a touch of winter in the midst of summer.

Jurassic Planet will provide dinosaur fans with the chance to see prehistoric creatures foraging in the open air while “The Universe Within,” an exhibit featuring actual bodies, specimens and organs, will provide an educational glimpse at how humans work. Both of these shows are for guests aged 6 and older.

Single-day admission to the fair is $20, $12 for children 6 to 12. Single-day admission on weekdays is a bit cheaper, at $14 general, $8 for kids. Seniors get in for $15 on weekends and $10 on weekdays. Check the fair website for the many discounts available for multiple visits and promotions like Claremont Day.
