Wednesday March 29
Police are on the lookout for a man who walked into a T-Mobile store and stole a display cell phone. The man strolled into the business on the 400 block of Auto Center Drive and snatched the $140 phone at approximately 2 p.m. He was described as a six foot tall Hispanic male with a mustache, according to Det. David Hardin of the Claremont Police Department. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CPD at (909) 399-5411.

An apparent squatter situation unfolded at a foreclosed home in north Claremont. A real estate representative went to check on a home on the 200 block of Independence Drive at around 5 p.m. only to find a man, identified as 34-year-old Jose Rosas of Glendora, living there. Mr. Rosas had keys and the utilities were in his name, but the agent claimed he wasn’t supposed to be there. The house entered foreclosure a few months prior and had been vacant ever since. It is unknown how long Mr. Rosas lived in the house. Once police were called, a check on Mr. Rosas’ record revealed a warrant out of Los Angeles County and he was arrested.

A burglar or group of burglars ransacked a north Claremont home during a brazen midday home invasion. The burglars used a rock to smash a window on the back door of a home on the 800 block of Peninsula Drive between 10:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. and gained entry by unlocking the door. Once inside, they went through the home, stealing an undetermined amount of property. The burglars fled the area undetected. Thursday, June 30
At approximately 11:40 p.m., officers picked up on a 2016 Nissan Altima traveling north on Indian Hill Boulevard that had been reported stolen out of Fontana. The car was eventually pulled over in front of Memorial Park. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Jeremy Bagwell of Glendora, was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle. An additional search of a backpack belonging to Mr. Bagwell reportedly revealed methamphetamine and an airsoft rifle with the orange tip missing. Mr. Bagwell was arrested and transported to CPD jail.
Saturday, July 2
At around 2:30 p.m., Claremont police noticed a car parked haphazardly near Indian Hill Boulevard in the Village, with the front wheel touching the curb and the back wheels jutting about six feet into Second Street. Det. Hardin said that police found two men—one slumped over on the curb and the other passed out in the car. After questioning, officers said the men denied drinking any alcohol. Officers determined that wasn’t the case and arrested 23-year-old Jeremy Hawkins of Claremont and 24-year-old Paddy Okoth of Pomona for public intoxication. They were transported to CPD jail, where they were released after sobering up.
Sunday, July 3
Police are looking for a woman who stole a man’s car after they partied together at the DoubleTree Hotel. The victim and the unidentified woman were hanging out in the hotel room on the evening of Saturday, July 2 when the man passed out around 11:30 p.m. Somewhere between that time and 12:30 a.m. on July 3, the woman took the keys to the man’s 2011 Nissan Altima and drove off, Det. Hardin said. Police went to a home where the woman supposedly lived but couldn’t find her. Repeated calls to her cell phone yielded no results. She is still at large.

A thief tried to get away with stealing a bike, but a vigilant witness tracked him down and got the bike returned. The incident occurred in front of Podge’s on the 100 block of Yale Avenue at about 10:30 a.m., when the unidentified thief stole the bike and tried to get away. A witness, who was also on a bicycle, immediately gave chase and pursued the thief until he stopped at the intersection of Arrow Highway and College Avenue. There, he abandoned the bicycle and escaped on foot, Det. Hardin said. The witness was able to return the bike to its owner, but the thief is still at large. He was described as a Causasian man, around 50 years old, with blonde hair. Anyone with information should call the CPD at (909) 399-5411.
