Police blotter 6-17-16

Tuesday, June 7

Police arrested a Rialto man after he attempted to run away from the scene of an accident. The collision happened at the intersection of Indian Hill Boulevard and Auto Center Drive just after 6 p.m., according to Lt. Mike Ciszek. Two men who were in one of the cars began running on foot from the scene of the accident. The passenger, later identified as 21-year-old Elijah Parker, was caught by officers near Denny’s. Once officers caught up to him, Mr. Parker was combative and refused to give his name. He was arrested for hit and run and resisting arrest. The driver of the car was not found.

 

Wednesday, June 8

If you left your methamphetamine at Bridges Auditorium, the Claremont police would like to let you know they found it. A janitor found two bags of the stuff near the sitting area of the Pomona College theater at around 12:30 p.m. It is unknown who it belongs to but if you have an idea, call the Claremont police at (909) 399-5411.

 

Thursday, June 9

A Claremont man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder five days after a shooting at Montclair Plaza. Darius Ridge, 27, was arrested in Rancho Cucamonga, according to a release from the Montclair Police Department. Mr. Ridge was arrested nearly one week after a shooting in the north parking structure of the mall that left one man with non-life-threatening injuries. Mr. Ridge reportedly fired several rounds at the victim, the release stated. Mr. Ridge is a former football player at Claremont High School.

 

Friday, June 10

Police arrested a Monrovia man on drug charges after he called police eight times in a 30-minute span. Pedro Garcia, 38, first called police from a phone at the Claremont Lodge at 10:14 a.m., according to Lt. Ciszek. When the responding officer was waiting for backup, a second call to the police was made from Mr. Garcia’s room. Police checked on him and initially cleared him. When the police left, Mr. Garcia called police six more times. When officers responded again at 10:47 a.m., they conducted a more thorough check and found that Mr. Garcia was likely under the influence of methamphetamine. He was arrested and transported to CPD jail.

Caroline Wu, 25, was seen jumping in and out of oncoming traffic in front of the Shell station on Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 freeway. When officers arrived, they noticed Ms. Wu, a Claremont resident, struggling to stand up while holding an empty 40-ounce bottle of beer. She was arrested on a drunk and disorderly charge and was transported to CPD jail to sober up.

 

Saturday, June 11

A Pomona man was arrested after allegedly punching a skateboarder in the face in an apparent unprovoked attack at the intersection of Indian Hill Boulevard and Oak Park Drive just after noon. Rodney Thompson, 62, was standing on the southwest corner of the intersection and the victim was at the northeast corner. According to a witness who was stopped at the intersection, Mr. Thompson walked up to the victim and punched him in the face. When police arrived, Mr. Thompson claimed that the victim tried to hit him with his skateboard. The witness denied that account. Mr. Thompson was arrested on a battery charge.

 

Sunday, June 12

An unidentified woman and a car salesman were on a test drive when she pulled over in front of Starbucks near the intersection of Indian Hill Boulevard and Auto Center Drive and coaxed the salesman to get out of the car. Once he exited the gray four-door Altima, she sped off, escaping via the eastbound 10 freeway on ramp. She is described as Hispanic, about 35 years old, 5-foot-6 and 180 pounds with blonde hair and brown eyes. No identification was given prior to test driving the vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

Two Claremont teens were arrested after attempting to shoplift some swag from Stix Skate Shop. At around 8 p.m., Xavier Wilson, 18, and Adrian Campos Morales, 19, tried to get away with three shirts and a skateboard deck without paying. The stolen merchandise totaled around $114. They didn’t get far, however, as employees stopped them almost immediately after the theft. Police were called, and Mr. Wilson and Mr. Campos Morales were arrested and transported to CPD jail, where they were booked and later released.
